Background: Type A aortic dissection (TAAD) remains a significant challenge in cardiac surgery, presenting high risks of adverse outcomes such as permanent neurological dysfunction and mortality despite advances in medical technology and surgical techniques. This study investigates the use of quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) to monitor and predict neurological outcomes during the perioperative period in TAAD patients.

Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted at the hospital, involving patients undergoing TAAD surgery from February 2022 to January 2023.

Emerging Deep Brain Stimulation Targets in the Cerebellum for Tremor.

Cerebellum

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) for essential tremor is remarkably effective, leading to over 80% reduction in standardized tremor ratings. However, for certain types of tremor, such as those accompanied by ataxia or dystonia, conventional DBS targets have shown poor efficacy. Various rationales for using cerebellar DBS stimulation to treat tremor have been advanced, but the varied approaches leave many questions unanswered: which anatomic target, stimulation settings, and indications seem most promising for this emerging approach.

Glioprotective Effects of Resveratrol Against Glutamate-Induced Cellular Dysfunction: The Role of Heme Oxygenase 1 Pathway.

Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, has shown promising neuroprotective effects in several in vivo and in vitro experimental models. However, the mechanisms by which resveratrol mediates these effects are not fully understood. Glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain; however, excessive extracellular glutamate levels can affect neural activity in several neurological diseases.

Parkinson Disease (PD) is a complex neurological disorder attributed by loss of neurons generating dopamine in the SN per compacta. Electroencephalogram (EEG) plays an important role in diagnosing PD as it offers a non-invasive continuous assessment of the disease progression and reflects these complex patterns. This study focuses on the non-linear analysis of resting state EEG signals in PD, with a gender-specific, brain region-specific, and EEG band-specific approach, utilizing recurrence plots (RPs) and machine learning (ML) algorithms for classification.

Deep Learning of CYP450 Binding of Small Molecules by Quantum Information.

J Chem Inf Model

January 2025

Industrial and Molecular Pharmaceutics, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907, United States.

Drug-drug interaction can lead to diminished therapeutic effects or increased toxicity, posing significant risks, especially in polypharmacy, and cytochrome P450 plays an indispensable role in this interaction. Cytochrome P450, responsible for the metabolism and detoxification of most drugs, metabolizes about 90% of Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs, making early detection of potential drug-drug interactions. Over the years, in-silico modeling has become a valuable tool for predicting drug-drug interactions.
