Objective: To investigate the circadian rhythmicity of adiponectin in patients with Cushing's syndrome and obesity, as well as in normal subjects. The effects of glucocorticoids, insulin and leptin on the secretion of adiponectin were also explored.
Methods: 15 patients with Cushing's syndrome and 10 with obesity as well as 9 normal subjects were recruited and their serum adiponectin, glucocorticoids, insulin and leptin levels were determined 6 times a day (8:00, 12:00, 16:00, 20:00, 24:00, 3:00).
Results: Circadian rhythmicity of adiponectin was not observed, but the adiponectin levels in patients with obesity were lower than those in the normal subjects at all 6 time spots. The area under curve (AUC) of serum adiponectin concentrations were significantly negatively correlated with body mass index (BMI, r = 0.46, P < 0.01), waist circumference (r = -0.33, P < 0.05) and insulin AUC (r = -0.36, P < 0.05). A multiple linear regression analysis revealed that BMI and waist circumference were two significant independent parameters of the plasma adiponectin level. The adiponectin levels did not manifest any change after short term dexamethasone administration with both high and low doses, but were obviously decreased after surgery.
Conclusions: Neither long-term endogenous hyperglucocorticoidism nor short-term dexamethasone administration affects the serum adiponectin levels and the serum adiponectin concentrations remain unchanged even with elevated postprandial insulin levels.

Objective: The role of adiponectin (APN) in regulating inflammation is well recognized in metabolic disease, but the dysregulation of APN in lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) remains controversial. We aimed to measure APN and its signaling receptors, adiponectin receptor (AdipoR), in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from LRTI patients to explore their potential roles in the LRTI process.
Methods: A total of 99 LRTI patients from the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University were categorized into acute (n=35) and non-acute (n=64), and non-severe (n=62) and severe (n=37) groups.

Circadian rhythms of metabolic, hormonal, and behavioral fluctuations and their alterations can impact health. An important gap in knowledge in the field is whether the time of the day of exercise and the age of onset of exercise exert distinct effects at the level of whole-body adipose tissue and body composition. The goal of the present study was to determine how exercise at different times of the day during adolescence impacts the adipose tissue transcriptome and content in a rodent model.

Purpose: Obesity may blunt exercise responsiveness to improve muscular adaptations. The effect of resistance training (RT) targeting different body regions on muscle and inflammatory markers is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the impact of upper (upper body exercises), lower (lower body exercises), or combined (upper body + lower body exercises) RT on muscle and inflammatory markers, body composition, and performance in overweight and obese men.

Objectives: The study investigates the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in resistin gene (RETN) with resistin level, insulin resistance, and the risk of type 2 diabetes in an early diagnosed type 2 diabetic population of Iran.
Methods: The total of 80 healthy subjects and 80 individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. To ascertain the genotypes of rs1862513 and rs3745367, we performed the polymerase chain reaction with restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique.

This meta-analysis aims to compile all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effects of grapes or grape products on adult anthropometric measures and serum adipokines. We searched PubMed, Scopus, Google scholar, Web of Science and CENTRAL databases published before January 2022. Random-effects model was used to combine mean differences between intervention and placebo groups.
