Background And Purpose: To validate the use of idealized seed orientations in conjunction with the line source formalism for post-implant dosimetry of permanent 125I prostate implants.

Patients And Methods: Post-implant, a CT scan and three fluoroscopic images were obtained for 32 patients having undergone permanent implants. From these images, the seed positions and orientations (phi, theta) were determined (1625 individual seeds). Two different dosimetric calculations were done: one using real orientations and one using idealized orientations (seeds along the axis of implantation). Dose volume histograms (DVHs) and key dosimetric parameters were compiled for the prostate, urethra, rectum, bladder and penile bulb, to evaluate the difference between the two approximations.

Results: The phi angle distribution (phi = 1.1 degrees; sigma phi = 22.9 degrees) and the theta angle distribution (theta= -4.29 degrees; sigma theta = 27.1 degrees) were found to be similar to the first order except for the pronounced peak of the phi angle distribution. The DVHs comparison and dosimetric parameters study reveal no significant difference between the two approximations. The difference in D90 for the prostate was only 0.02% (sigma = 0.91%) The differences were slightly higher in the case of the organs at risk, as expected from the dosimetric characteristics of the seed model used.

Conclusions: The angular distributions (phi, theta) of individual seeds were determined. The dosimetric evaluation shows that line source formalism can be used in conjunction with an idealized seed configuration presented here to report prostate and organs at risk dose coverage.

The study aimed to develop a superhydrophobic coating on the aluminium alloy 2024-T3 surface. The desired surface roughness and low surface energy were achieved with SiO nanoparticles, synthesised via the Stöber method and modified with alkyl silane (AS) or perfluoroalkyl silane (FAS). To enhance particle adhesion to the alloy substrate, nanoparticles were incorporated into a hybrid sol-gel coating composed of tetraethyl orthosilicate, methyl methacrylate, and 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane.

This paper investigates the effects of particle morphology (PM) and particle size distribution (PSD) on the micro-macro mechanical behaviours of granular soils through a novel X-ray micro-computed tomography (μCT)-based discrete element method (DEM) technique. This technique contains the grain-scale property extraction by the X-ray μCT, DEM parameter calibration by the one-to-one mapping technique, and the massive derivative DEM simulations. In total, 25 DEM samples were generated with a consideration of six PSDs and four PMs.

To reveal the microstructural evolution and stress-strain distribution of 780 MPa-grade ferrite/martensite dual-phase steel during a uniaxial tensile deformation process, the plastic deformation behavior under uniaxial tension was studied using in situ EBSD and crystal plastic finite element method (CPFEM). The results showed that the geometrically necessary dislocations (GND) in ferrite accumulated continuously, which is conducive to the formation of grain boundaries, but the texture distribution did not change significantly. The average misorientation angle decreased and the proportion of low-angle grain boundaries increased with the increase of strain.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the large deflection problem of bimodular functionally graded truncated thin conical shells under the transverse mechanical load and non-uniform thermal load, in which two different boundary constraints of the truncated shell with two ends simply supported and fully fixed are considered. It is assumed that the temperature distribution along the thickness direction satisfies the Fourier law of heat transfer, and the material properties change exponentially along the thickness direction while different properties in tension and compression are considered. The geometric equation of the conical shell is established based on the equivalent method of curvature correction of von-Kármán deformation theory, and the analytical solution of the problem is obtained by Ritz method.

Friction-stir-welded dissimilar AA2024/AA7075 joints have an apparent influence on grain and texture development at the weld interface due to differences in physical and chemical properties between the two aluminum alloys. In this work, the effect of tool shoulder profile on grain structure and texture evolution in the center interface zone (CIZ) and bottom interface zone (BIZ) of dissimilar AA2024/AA7075 joints were quantitatively studied by electron back-scattering diffraction (EBSD). The results indicate that abundant fine and coarse equiaxial grains are produced in the CIZ and BIZ of the joints produced with a concentric circle shoulder (CCS) and three-helix shoulder (THS), and the average grain size of the BIZ is lower than that of the CIZ for the same CCS or THS joint.
