Cyclic voltammetry was successfully applied to study the oxidation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) both in homogeneous and heterogeneous phase. The first case was realized with a solution containing p-methylamino-phenolsulphate (MAP) as redox mediator and the diaphorase (DI) from Clostridium kluveri as enzyme while the second one by using both a glassy carbon (GC) and a carbon nanotube paste (CNTP) electrode modified with electrodeposited films derived from 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (3,4-DHB). Such systems were successively coupled with glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) reaction to realize the redox chain present in glucose biosensors. A critical comparison of the two systems was also reported.

The discovery of a stable organic radical formed under mild, clean, and efficient light-mediated conditions is reported. The structure of the stable acridinium-based radical photoproduct was unambiguously established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, and in solution by EPR, UV/vis, and NMR spectroscopies. The photochemical mechanism of its formation has been elucidated by photophysical experiments coupled with EPR experiments and theoretical investigations.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated anticancer modalities, which disturb the redox balance of cancer cells through multi-pathway simulations, hold great promise for effective cancer management. Among these, cooperative physical and biochemical activation strategies have attracted increasing attention because of their spatiotemporal controllability, low toxicity, and high therapeutic efficacy. Herein, we demonstrate a nanogel complex as a multilevel ROS-producing system by integrating chloroperoxidase (CPO) into gold nanorod (AuNR)-based nanogels (ANGs) for cascade-amplifying photothermal-enzymatic synergistic tumor therapy.

Background: Several respiratory viruses, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), suppress nuclear factor-E2-related factor-2 (NRF2) antioxidant response, generating oxidative stress conditions to its advantage. NRF2 has also been reported to regulate the innate immune response through the inhibition of the interferon (IFN) pathway. However, its modulation in younger individuals and its correlation with the IFN response remain to be elucidated.

Catechol-functionalized proteins in mussel holdfasts are essential for underwater adhesion and cohesion and have inspired countless synthetic polymeric materials and devices. However, as catechols are prone to oxidation, long-term performance and stability of these inventions awaits effective antioxidation strategies. In mussels, catechol-mediated interactions are stabilized by 'built-in' homeostatic redox reservoirs that restore catechols oxidized to quinones.

Soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stands as a pivotal regulatory element in intracellular signalling pathways, mediating the formation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and impacting diverse physiological processes across tissues. Increased formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is widely recognized to modulate cGMP signalling. Indeed, oxidatively damaged, and therefore inactive sGC, contributes to poor vascular reactivity and more severe neurological damage upon stroke.
