In this study, we investigated whether spinal noradrenergic and serotonergic systems are involved in the antinociception induced by the novel pyrazolines 3-methyl- and 3-phenyl-5-hydroxy-5-trichloromethyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-1-pyrazole-1-carboxyamide (MPCA and PPCA, respectively), and the pyrazolinone dipyrone in the acetic acid writhing (stretching) test in mice. Intrathecal (i.t.) administration of methysergide (3 and 10 microg) and yohimbine (3 microg), but not of prazosin (0.3 and 1 microg) prevented the antinociceptive action of MPCA and PPCA (500 micromol/kg, s.c.). Dipyrone-induced antinociception (500 micromol/kg, s.c.) was not affected by methysergide or adrenoceptor antagonists. These results suggest that spinal 5-HT receptors and alpha2-adrenoceptors are involved in the antinociception induced by MPCA and PPCA, but not in that elicited by dipyrone.

Purpose: To compare the accuracy of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas in cataract patients with keratoconus (KC).
Methods: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis statementand and was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42024568997). Pubmed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE were searched for retrospective and prospective clinical studies published until October 2024.
Background: To determine whether accounting for posterior corneal surgically induced astigmatism (SIA) would improve toric intraocular lens power calculation prediction error.
Methods: A total of 189 eyes of 148 patients undergoing routine cataract surgery were included in the study. Standard and posterior keratometry were measured pre- and postoperatively.

Purpose: To describe the accuracy of monofocal intraocular lens power calculation in patients with keratoconus using total keratometry (TK) and standard keratometry (K) with conventional and keratoconus-modified formulas.
Setting: Asociación Para Evitar la Ceguera en México, Mexico City, Mexico.
Design: Observational, retrospective, non-randomized, comparative study.
Purpose: To compare the prediction accuracy of the Barrett toric calculator using standard or integrated keratometry (IK) mode in combination with predicted or measured posterior corneal astigmatism (PCA) in a group of patients with cataract implanted with non-toric IOLs.
Methods: In this retrospective clinical cohort study, the medical records of patients with age-related cataract who underwent phacoemulsification with the implantation of an aspheric monofocal IOL were reviewed. Four methods, including standard keratometry with predicted PCA (PPCA), IK combined with predicted PCA (IK-PPCA), and IK combined with measured PCA derived from IOLMaster 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG) or CASIA2 (Tomey) (IK-MMPCA or IK-CMPCA), were applied to the Barrett toric calculator to calculate the predicted residual astigmatism.

From the Cathedral Eye Clinic (S.S., R.M., J.E.M.), Belfast, United Kingdom.
Purpose: To assess whether the use of measured posterior corneal astigmatism (PCA) values improves the prediction accuracy of toric intraocular lens power formulas, compared to predicted PCA values, when the orientation of the steep axis of PCA is non-vertical.
Design: Retrospective observational cohort study.
Methods: Four hundred eighteen eyes of 344 patients were included in the study.
