Density functional theory (DFT) in its B3LYP implementation is used to investigate the reaction of ammonia with the late (Co(+), Ni(+), and Cu(+)) first-row transition metal cations in both high- and low-spin states. The potential energy surfaces (PES's) leading to three different exit channels are closely examined. The binding energies for the reaction products are calculated and compared with the corresponding experimental values. A comparison with our earlier works covering the reactivity of the Sc-Fe series of cations is made in order to underline similarities and differences of the reaction mechanisms as well as to establish trends along the row.

Diatomic catalysts enhance photocatalytic CO reduction through synergistic effects. However, precisely regulating the distance between two catalytic centers to achieve synergistic catalysis poses significant challenges. In this study, a series of one-dimensional (1D) covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are designed with adjustable micropores to facilitate efficient CO photoreduction.

Leaf angle is a major agronomic trait that determines plant architecture, which directly affects rice planting density, photosynthetic efficiency, and yield. The plant phytohormones brassinosteroids (BRs) and the MAPK signaling cascade are known to play crucial roles in regulating the leaf angle, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Here, we report a rice WRKY family transcription factor gene, OsWRKY72, which positively regulates leaf angle by affecting lamina joint development and BR signaling.

Background: Lipid metabolism is influenced by mutations in the EH domain binding protein 1 gene (EHBP1). This study investigated the link between the EHBP1 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and dyslipidemia risks in maintenance dialysis patients with end-stage renal disease in Chinese Han population.
Methods: A total of 539 patients were divided into dyslipidemia (379) and control (160) groups.

Background: Although emerging evidence suggests that indole derivatives, microbial metabolites of tryptophan, may improve cardiometabolic health, the effective metabolites remain unclear. Also, the gut microbiota that involved in producing indole derivatives are less studied. We identified microbial taxa that can predict serum concentrations of the key indole metabolite indole-3-propionic acid (IPA) at population level and investigated the associations of indole derivatives and IPA-predicting microbial genera with cardiometabolic risk markers.
