Low-molecular-weight chitosans with a viscosity-average molecular weight (Mv) of 5 to 27 kDa and equal degree of deacetylation (DD, 85%) were highly active against Pseudomonas aureofaciens, Enterobacter agglomerans, Bacillus subtilis, and Bifidobacterium bifidum 791, causing death of 80 to 100% of cells. An exception to this tendency was Escherichia coli, for which the rate of cell death, induced by the 5-kDa chitosan, was 38%. The antibacterial effect was manifested as early as 10 min after incubation of 12-kDa chitosan with B. subtilis or E. coli cells. Candida krusei was almost insensitive to the above crab chitosans. However, Candida krusei was highly sensitive to chitosans with Mv 5, 6, 12, 15.7, and 27 kDa: the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) varied from 0.06 to 0.005%. Chitosans with M, 5, 12, and 15.7 kDa exerted an antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus. Chitosans with Mv 5, 15.7, and 27 kDa had no effect on Bifidobacterium bifidum ATCC 14893. The antibacterial effect of the 4-kDa chitosan on E. coli and B. bifidum 791 increased with DD in the range 55-85%.

In addition to the basic and main parts of hospital equipment, 316 L stainless steel is widely utilized in futures such as nails and screws, wires and medical bone clips, dental implants, heart springs (stents), needles, surgical scissors, etc. In the present study, the electrophoretic deposition of a composite based on chitosan (CS), gelatin, nano and microparticles of hydroxyapatite on a 316 L stainless steel substrate was investigated. Hydroxyapatite particles are added to it due to the ossification abilities of steel and due to an enhanced adhesion and bone production, CS and biocompatible gelatin polymer particles were also added to hydroxyapatite.

The toxicity of organic molecules and transition metal cations imposes their removal from aqueous medium to protect human health. Traditionally, systems have been designed to target either organic molecules or transition metal cations individually. However, a homogenous poly(chitosan-N-vinylcaprolactam-methacrylic acid) P(CVM) microgel system has been introduced to effectively eliminate both types of pollutants.

Hypothesis: Predicting the exact nature of the self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules into supramolecular structures is of utmost importance for a variety of applications, but this is a challenge for nanotechnology. The amphiphilic drug delivery polymer-N-palmitoyl-N-monomethyl-N,N-dimethyl-N,N,N-trimethyl-6-O-glycolchitosan (GCPQ) self-assembles in aqueous media to form nanoparticles.
Experiment: This work aimed to develop a systematic predictive mathematical model on the eventual nature of oil-loaded GCPQ-nanoparticles and to determine the main independent variables that affect their nanoarchitecture following self-assembly.

Cell therapy is a promising strategy for treating neurological pathologies but requires invasive methods to bypass the blood-brain barrier restrictions. The nose-to-brain route has been presented as a direct and less invasive alternative to access the brain. The primary limitations of this route are low retention in the olfactory epithelium and poor cell survival in the harsh conditions of the nasal cavity.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to compare the clinical and radiographic success of amniotic membrane derivative (AMD), chitosan with mineral trioxide aggregate (C-MTA), diode laser (DL), and ferric sulfate (FS) as pulpotomy agents in human primary molars.
Materials And Methods: In this present study, pulpotomies were performed on 48 primary molars in 30 children aged between 4 and 8 years (12 teeth in each group). Following the pulpotomy procedure, teeth were evaluated clinically and radiographically at 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9 monthly intervals.
