Single crystalline SnO(2) nano-needles with length up to 6-7 microm and diameter less than 300 nm are synthesized on an Au-coating porous silicon substrate from SnH(4) source via a glow discharge process.

The erosion-corrosion mechanism of low-alloy steel in high-ammonia steam generator's chemistry is studied by in situ impedance spectroscopy coupled with an in-depth analysis of formed oxides using glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy. A novel electrode setup that ensures turbulent conditions in the vicinity of the steel sample is used. The effect of temperature (130-230 °C) and flow rate (2-10 dm h) is investigated.

At the extremes, all analytical spectrometric measurements are limited by the resolution of the spectrometer system. Spectral overlaps, isobars in the case of mass spectrometry, can lead to the implementation of complex and time-consuming chemical separations to alleviate those interferences. In the area of elemental/isotopic mass spectrometry, use of sector-field instruments can provide a mass resolution of ~10,000, but still necessitate chemical separations.
