Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an environmental hazard well known for its neurotoxicity. In mammalian cells, HS is predominantly generated by transsulfuration pathway enzymes. In addition, HS produced by gut microbiome significantly contributes to the total sulfide burden in the body.

We build a theoretical model of a 2 × 2 Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) optical switch, taking into account both imbalances in the arm loss and the coupler splitting ratio. The splitting ratio imbalance requirement for a given switch cross talk is summarized, which provides a guideline for the switch design.

The limited operational lifetime of quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) poses a critical obstacle that must be addressed before their practical application. Specifically, cadmium-free InP-based QLEDs, which are environmentally benign, experience significant operational degradation due to challenges in charge-carrier confinement stemming from the composition of InP quantum dots (QDs). This study investigates the operational degradation of InP QLEDs and provides direct evidence of the degradation process.

Various electrochemical tests were carried out to elucidate the electrolytic oxidation mechanism of oxalic acid on a boron-doped diamond electrode in a nitric acid environment. These included cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance, constant current electrolysis, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. The impact of electrode potential, current density, nitric acid concentration, and electrode plate spacing on the oxidation of oxalic acid was investigated.

The mesopores and macropores within porous carbon materials help increase the surface for the depostion of solid-state products, reduce the LiS film thickness, enhance electron and mass transport, and accelerate the reaction kinetics. However, an excessive amount of mesopores and macropores can lead to increased electrolyte consumption, particularly at high sulfur loadings, where excessive electrolyte usage hampers the enhancement of practical energy density in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. A rational pore structure can minimize the amount of electrolyte to fill the pores, thereby reducing electrolyte consumption while achieving rapid reaction kinetics and a high gravimetric energy density.
