Background: Rearing poultry under stressful high stocking density (HSD) conditions is a common commercial practice to increase profitability, despite its negative effects on broiler physiology and welfare. Many feed additives are used to alleviate the negative impact of such practices. This study investigated the ameliorative effects of guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) on growth performance, ingestive behavior, immune response, antioxidant status, stress indicators, and intestinal histomorphometry of broilers subjected to HSD.

L-arginine: glycine amidinotransferase (AGAT) gained academic interest as the rate-limiting enzyme in creatine biosynthesis and its role in the regulation of creatine homeostasis. Of clinical relevance is the diagnosis of patients with AGAT deficiency but also the potential role of AGAT as therapeutic target for the treatment of another creatine deficiency syndrome, guanidinoacetate N-methyltransferase (GAMT) deficiency. Applying a stable isotope-labeled substrate method, we utilized ARG 15N (ARG-δ2) and GLY 13C15N (GLY-δ3) to determine the rate of 1,2-13C,15N guanidinoacetate (GAA-δ5) formation to assess AGAT activity in various mouse tissue samples and human-derived cells.

This study tested the hypothesis that dietary supplementation with glycine (Gly) enhances the synthesis and availability of creatine (Cr) in tissues of pigs with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). At weaning (21 d of age), IUGR pigs and litter mates with normal birth weights (NBW) were assigned randomly to 1 of the 2 groups, namely, supplementation with 1% Gly or 1.19% l-alanine (isonitrogenous control) to a corn- and soybean meal-based diet.

In adolescence, psychotic-like experiences (PLE) may indicate potential prodromal symptoms preceding the onset of psychosis. Metabolomic studies have shown promise in providing valuable insights into predicting psychosis with enhanced precision compared to conventional clinical features. This study investigated metabolomic alterations associated with PLE in 76 depressed adolescents aged 14-20 years.

This study elucidated the effects of dosage-dependent guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) supplementation on growth performance, muscle responses, and carcass characteristics in finishing beef steers. Thirty crossbred Red Angus beef steers (395 ± 28.09 kg) were randomly assigned one of three treatments during a 146-d feedlot study: basal diet without GAA supplementation (CONTROL), 1g of GAA per 100 kg of body weight (BW) daily (LOWGAA), and 2 g of GAA per 100 kg of BW daily (HIGHGAA).
