We have analyzed the proteome of human cerebrospinal fluid with the help of shotgun mass spectrometry. In order to identify low-abundant proteins in these fluids, we have found it necessary to remove the abundant protein components from the mixture. Immunodepletion of the abundant proteins has allowed us to identify more than 100 proteins in cerebrospinal fluids from a patient suffering from normal pressure hydrocephalus. The identified proteins belong to a variety of different classes ranging from serum proteins to intracellular mediators that are involved in signal transduction and transcription. This work establishes a platform for future studies aimed at the comparative proteome analysis of cerebrospinal fluids from different groups of patients suffering from various psychiatric and neurological disorders.

It is difficult to distinguish Parkinson's disease (PD) in the early stage from those of various disorders including atypical Parkinson's syndrome (APS), vascular parkinsonism (VP), and even essential tremor (ET), because of the overlap of symptoms. Other, more challenging problems will arise when Parkinson's disease develops into Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD) in the middle and late stages. At this time, the differential diagnosis of PDD and DLB becomes thorny.

Mammalian sterile20-like kinase 1 (MST1), a serine/threonine kinase frequently expressed, has emerged as pivotal modulator of multiple physiological and pathological conditions such as cellular growth, programmed cell death, oxidative stress, neurodegeneration, inflammation, and synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system. Various neurological diseases are associated with the activation of MST1. Epilepsy is a severe neurological disorder characterized by abrupt abnormal electrical activity in the brain and recurring spontaneous seizures.

Cauda equina nerve roots may become damaged during neuraxial anesthesia, and post-puncture headache may appear in the case of cerebrospinal fluid leakage if needle tips are deformed due to bone contact when several attempts are needed. Our aim was to verify the correlation between skin-transverse process distance (st) and skin-dural sac distance (d) for calculation of optimal angles in a free visual guide and as a reference for the maximal depth to be traversed by the needle. Randomly selected ex vivo samples ( = 10) were flexed to reproduce the position of the lumbosacral spine during spinal anesthesia.

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a major health concern that has a significant impact on morbidity and mortality worldwide. Tubercular meningitis (TBM) may be fatal due to its severe neurological outcomes if not diagnosed and treated promptly. The newer molecular diagnostic techniques have brought significant advancements in the detection of (MTB).

Objectives: This study compared the clinical outcomes of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and open surgery (OS) for patients with intraspinal tumors.
Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang databases was conducted to identify relevant studies. Continuous variables, including estimated blood loss, surgery duration, time to mobilization, length of hospitalization, visual analog scale (VAS) score, and incision length, were reported as mean differences (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs).
