The cardiac slow delayed rectifier potassium channel (IKs), comprised of (KCNQ1) and beta (KCNE1) subunits, is regulated by sympathetic nervous stimulation, with activation of beta-adrenergic receptors PKA phosphorylating IKs channels. We examined the effects of 2-adrenergic receptors (beta2-AR) on IKs in cardiac ventricular myocytes from transgenic mice expressing fusion proteins of IKs subunits and hbeta2-ARs. KCNQ1 and beta2-ARs were localized to the same subcellular regions, sharing intimate localization within nanometers of each other. In IKs/B2-AR myocytes, IKs density was increased, and activation shifted in the hyperpolarizing direction; IKs was not further modulated by exposure to isoproterenol, and KCNQ1 was found to be PKA-phosphorylated. Conversely, beta2-AR overexpression did not affect L-type calcium channel current (ICaL) under basal conditions with ICaL remaining responsive to cAMP. These data indicate intimate association of KCNQ1 and beta2-ARs and that beta2-AR signaling can modulate the function of IKs channels under conditions of increased beta2-AR expression, even in the absence of exogenous beta-AR agonist.

The cryopreservation of human spermatozoa is an integral part of cryobiology, aiming to support the in-vitro fertilization. The latter relies on the availability of as much as possible reproductively active spermatozoa, whose number after thawing decreases due to the accompanied freezing injury and the cytotoxicity of cryoprotectants. An innovative option to circumvent these obstacles is to make the freezing interface non-wettable, by coating it with rapeseed oil soot possessing intrinsic cryoprotective properties, delaying the ice formation and possibly providing identical rates of intracellular dehydration and extracellular crystallization.

Background: The modification of endothelial cells (ECs) biological function under pathogenic conditions leads to the expression of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) markers, defined as endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT). Invisible in onset and slow in progression, atherosclerosis (AS) is a potential contributor to various atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD). By triggering AS, EndMT, the "initiator" of AS, induces the progression of ASCVD such as coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD) and ischemic cerebrovascular disease (ICD), with serious clinical complications such as myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke.

Pump-probe response of the spin-orbit coupled Mott insulator Sr_{2}IrO_{4} reveals a rapid creation of low-energy optical weight and suppression of three-dimensional magnetic order on laser pumping. Postpump there is a quick reduction of the optical weight but a very slow recovery of the magnetic order-the difference is attributed to weak interlayer exchange in Sr_{2}IrO_{4} delaying the recovery of three-dimensional magnetic order. We suggest that the effect has a very different and more fundamental origin.
