Retrograde cycle length alternans during supraventricular tachycardia: an unusual tachycardia mechanism.

Department of Cardiology, University of California, Davis, Sacramento, California, USA.

Published: July 2004

Cycle length alternans is occasionally seen during supraventricular tachycardia due to oscillations in the antegrade atrioventricular nodal (AVN) refractoriness. However, alternans due to retrograde variation in AVN conduction has not been reported. This report describes the case of a 36-year-old man with atypical AVN reentry tachycardia (AVNRT) whose episodes of tachycardia were characterized by continuous oscillations in retrograde AVN conduction. Ablation at one spot eliminated the tachycardia. Cycle length alternans due to oscillations in retrograde AVN conduction, although rare, can be seen during atypical AVNRT and should be considered.

Objective: To evaluate the effect and safety of Chinese medicine (CM) Fuzheng Huazhuo Decoction (FHD) in treating patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who persistently tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at Shanghai New International Expo Center shelter hospital in China between April 1 and May 30, 2022. Patients diagnosed as COVID-19 with persistently positive SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results for ⩾8 days after diagnosis were enrolled.

Tailless control of a four-winged flapping-wing micro air vehicle with wing twist modulation.

This paper describes the tailless control system design of a flapping-wing micro air vehicle in a four-winged configuration, which can provide high control authority to be stable and agile in flight conditions from hovering to maneuvering flights. The tailless control system consists of variable flapping frequency and wing twist modulation. The variable flapping frequency creates rolling moments through differential vertical force from flapping mechanisms that can be independently driven on the left and right sides.

Background: Ventricular tachycardia (VT) substrate characteristics before transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement (TPVR) in repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) are unknown.

Objectives: In this study, the authors sought to evaluate substrates for sustained monomorphic VT before TPVR in rTOF.

Methods: Retrospective (2017 to 2021) and prospective (commencing 2021) rTOF patients with native right ventricular outflow tract referred for electrophysiology study (EPS) before TPVR were included.

We report a silicon anode for lithium-ion batteries consisting of a layer of 100% nanotubes directly bonded to copper foil. The process involved silicon deposition on a sacrificial zinc oxide nanorod film and removal of zinc oxide to produce a nanotube film directly on thin copper foils. The thickness of resulting films ranged from 9 to 20 μm with Si nanotubes having diameters of 200-400 nm and lengths of 2-10 μm.

Controlled ligation and elongation of uniformly truncated amyloid nanofibrils.

Nanoscale

January 2025

Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Korea University, Sejong 30019, Republic of Korea.

This study investigates the production and inter-fibril interactions of uniformly truncated amyloid nanofibrils. By varying extrusion cycles (0, 50, and 100) and using carbonate filters with 100 nm and 200 nm pore sizes, precise fibril length control was achieved. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) confirmed that the mean length of the truncated fibrils corresponded to the respective pore size as extrusion cycles increased.
