An isolate of Streptomyces tendae produced a extracellular protease which was purified to apparent homogeneity giving a single band on SDS-PAGE with a molecular mass of 21 kDa. Optimum activity was at 70 degrees C and pH 6. It was stable at 55 degrees C for 30 min and between pH 4 and 9. It was resistant to neutral detergents and organic solvents such as Triton X-100, Tween 80, methanol, ethanol, acetone, and 2-propanol at 5% (v/v). The enzyme was completely inhibited by 5 mM PMSF, indicating it to be a serine protease. N-terminal amino acid sequence did not show any homology with other known proteolytic enzymes. The protease may therefore be a novel neutral serine protease, which is stable at high temperature and over a broad range of pH.

To create a diagnostic tool before biopsy for patients with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels < 20 ng/ml to minimize prostate biopsy-related discomfort and risks. Data from 655 patients who underwent transperineal prostate biopsy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College from July 2021 to January 2023 were collected and analyzed. After applying the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling TEchnique class balancing on the training set, multiple machine learning models were constructed by using the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) feature selection to identify the significant variables.

Corticosteroid binding globulin (CBG; SERPINA6) binds >85% of circulating glucocorticoids but its influence on their metabolic actions is unproven. Targeted proteolytic cleavage of CBG by neutrophil elastase (NE; ELANE) significantly reduces CBG binding affinity, potentially increasing 'free' glucocorticoid levels at sites of inflammation. NE is inhibited by alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT; SERPINA1).

Secondary cell wall (SCW) deposition is tightly coordinated with programmed cell death (PCD) during xylem development and plays a crucial role in plant stress responses. In this study, we characterized a serine carboxypeptidase-like gene, SCPL48, which exhibits xylem cell-specific expression patterns in stem xylem during vascular development. The scpl48 plants exhibited reduced stem xylem cell numbers, particularly vessel cells, accompanied by delayed organelle degradation during PCD and increased secondary wall thickness in xylem vessel cells.

Purpose Of The Review: A significant number of patients fail to achieve target LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. This review aims to explore why inclisiran, a novel class of LLT, should be considered a valuable addition to the current treatment options.
Recent Findings: Inclisiran is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) that targets PCSK9 synthesis specifically in the hepatocytes.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an uncurable, heterogeneous, and molecular complex neurodegenerative disease. Emerging evidence indicates that furin could play an essential role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. Furin participates in the proteolytic maturation and processing of large numbers of prohormones and proproteins, which among others play crucial roles in neuronal survival, axon growth, dendritic development, synaptogenesis, neurodegeneration, and inflammation.
