2D NMR studies demonstrate that the residence lifetime of 15NH4+ ions within the bimolecular G-quadruplex adopted by d(G4T4G4) is reduced from 270 ms in the presence of ammonium ions alone to 36 ms in the presence of Na+ ions.

In this study, a novel tunnel structure vanadate NaVO (NaVO) cathode for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) is facilely fabricated by thermal decomposition of polyoxovanadate containing NH ions. The NaVO cathode is characterized by abundant oxygen vacancies and nanometer dimensions. These attributes can offer extra reaction sites and suppress structural collapse during circulation.

A paper-based potentiometric sensor integrated with a polymeric hydrogel has been developed for sodium ion (Na) determination in human urine. The construction of an all-solid-state ion selective electrode (s-ISE) and an all-solid-state reference electrode (s-RE) on a photo paper substrate was achieved using an inkjet printing method. For s-ISE fabrication, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were printed on the substrate as a nanocomposite solid contact.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS) is a promising anode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its high theoretical capacity and layered structure. However, a poor reversible conversion reaction and a low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) limit its practical application. This study systematically investigated the potential of pre-intercalated sodium ions molybdenum disulfide (Na-MoS) as an anode material for SIBs.

Calcium-dependent protein kinases (CPKs) are plant proteins that directly bind calcium ions before phosphorylating substrates involved in biotic and abiotic stress responses, as well as development. CPK3 () is involved with plant signaling pathways such as stomatal movement regulation, salt stress response, apoptosis, seed germination and pathogen defense. In this study, and its orthologues in relatively distant plant species such as rice (, monocot) and kiwifruit (, asterid eudicot) were analyzed in response to drought, bacteria, fungi, and virus infections.

The Role of Polarizability in Isoelectronic Ions: The Case of Pseudohalides.

Specific ion effects are widespread and have been studied for over a century, yet they remain poorly understood. Terms like "kosmotropes" and "chaotropes" are convenient rules of thumb but the frequent reversal of the Hofmeister series implies their limitations. Polarizability is often used to classify ions, with kosmotropes considered low in polarizability and chaotropes high.
