Early Dynamics of Portal Pressure Gradient After TIPS Insertion Predict Mortality.

Aliment Pharmacol Ther

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine IV (Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious Diseases), Jena University Hospital, Friedrich-Schiller-University, Jena, Germany.

Background: Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement leads to a reduction in portal pressure and an improvement in survival in patients with recurrent and refractory ascites and variceal haemorrhage. Prediction of post-TIPS survival is primarily determined by factors identified before the TIPS procedure, as data collected during or after TIPS implantation are limited. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of early hemodynamic changes after TIPS placement on survival, in order to refine post TIPS management.

Objective: This study investigated the efficacy of comprehensive management and predictable inflammatory markers for idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (iRPF)-related hydronephrosis outcomes.

Methods: Patients with iRPF-related hydronephrosis underwent surgical (ureteral stent and/or nephrostomy tube placement) and medical (corticosteroid-based multiple immunosuppressants) management were classified according to stent-indwelling outcomes. Univariate analysis of clinical profiles was conducted to screen possible predictors of hydronephrosis remission.

Objective: To present and analyze eight clinical cases illustrating the use of rose stem cell-derived exosomes (RSCEs) in treating various dermatological conditions and to review current literature on plant-derived exosomes in medicine and dermatology.

Background: RSCEs possess low cytotoxicity, high biocompatibility, and effective cellular uptake, making them promising agents for dermatological therapies. A literature review included in the introduction and discussion covers the broader role of plant-derived exosomes, highlighting their therapeutic potential in skin treatment.

Introduction EUS-guided gall bladder drainage (EUS-GBD) for management of symptomatic gallbladder disease has been shown to be safe and effective in high surgical risk patients with data lacking in patients with cirrhosis. We sought to study the safety and effectiveness of EUS-GBD in cirrhotic compared to non-cirrhotic patients. Methods Retrospective review of patients who underwent EUS-GBD at four (3 US and 1 Spain) international tertiary care centers.

Tissue remodeling during high-altitude pulmonary edema in rats: Biochemical and histomorphological analysis.

High altitude characterized by the low partial pressure of the oxygen is a life-threatening condition that contributes to the development of acute pulmonary edema and hypoxic lung injury. In this study, we aimed to investigate the contribution of some inflammatory and oxidative stress markers along with antioxidant system enzymes in the pathogenesis of HAPE (high-altitude pulmonary edema) formation. We incorporated the study on 42 male rats to unravel the role of mast cells (MCs) and TNF-α in the lung after the effect of acute hypobaric hypoxia.
