Objective: To evaluate the calcium/protein relation of the diet of climacteric women.
Methods: In a transversal study the diet was evaluated of 154 women 35-65 years old and matriculated in the Health Clinic of the Climateric Woman of Health Center of Public Health College of the São Paulo University. The food intake of calcium and protein was investigated by "24 hours recall" method. The evaluation of calcium/protein relation was made according to Massey and Heaney (1998), that is 20/1 (mg/g).
Results: The mean of intake of calcium was 624.9 mg, the mean of intake of protein was 86.7 g and the calcium/protein relation was 7/1 (624.9 mg/86.7 g).
Conclusion: The studied population presents inadequated consumation of the calcium and protein nutrients. It could result in serious risk for health.

The synthesis, processing, and secretion of insulin by the pancreatic β-cell is key for the maintenance of systemic metabolic homeostasis, and loss or dysfunction of β-cells underlies the development of both type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Work in the Evans-Molina laboratory over the past 15 years has pioneered the idea that regulation of calcium dynamics is critical to β-cell biology and diabetes pathophysiology. In this article, I will share three vignettes from the laboratory that demonstrate our bench-to-bedside approach to determining mechanisms of β-cell stress that could improve therapeutic options and outcomes for individuals living with diabetes.

Mice with cardiac-specific overexpression of adenylyl cyclase (AC) type 8 (TG) are under a constant state of severe myocardial stress. They have a remarkable ability to adapt to this stress, but they eventually develop accelerated cardiac aging and experience reduced longevity. We have previously demonstrated through bioinformatics that constitutive adenylyl cyclase activation in TG mice is associated with the activation of inflammation-related signaling pathways.

Remorins are a family of multigenic plasma membrane phosphoproteins involved in biotic and abiotic plant interaction mechanisms, partnering in molecular signaling cascades. Signaling activity of remorins depends on their phosphorylation states and subsequent clustering into nanosized membrane domains. The presence of a coiled-coil domain and a C-terminal domain is crucial to anchor remorins to negatively charged membrane domains; however, the exact role of the N-terminal intrinsically disordered domain (IDD) on protein clustering and lipid interactions is largely unknown.
