Solid-supported catalysts derived from homogeneous nickel(II) and palladium(II) non-symmetrical salen-type coordination complexes have been prepared and shown to be effective in the heterogeneous catalysis of carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions. The nickel catalyst has been used in room-temperature Tamao-Kumada-Corriu reactions and the palladium catalyst in the Heck reaction at elevated temperatures. The complexes were prepared by improved methods and characterised by spectroscopic techniques. Comparisons between the solid-supported catalysts and their homogeneous analogues are reported. The single-crystal structure determination of the nickel and palladium complexes [M(salenac-OH)][M = Ni, Pd; salenac-OH = 9-(2',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-5,8-diaza-4-methylnona-2,4,8-trienato](2-)] is reported.

Polymer-based catalysts have garnered significant interest for their efficiency, reusability, and compatibility with various synthesis processes. In catalytic applications, polymers offer the advantage of structural versatility, enabling functional groups to be tailored for specific catalytic activities. In this study, we developed a novel magnetic copolymer of methyl methacrylate and maleic anhydride (PMMAn), synthesized via in situ chemical polymerization of methyl methacrylate onto maleic anhydride, using benzoyl peroxide as a free-radical initiator.

This study investigates the repurposing of asphaltene, a petroleum waste product, as a catalyst for organic reactions. Sulfonated asphaltene was synthesized and evaluated for its efficacy in catalyzing the Mannich reaction, displaying notable diastereoselectivity and operating effectively under mild conditions. Characterization of the catalyst's chemical composition, structure, and thermal stability was conducted using FT-IR, TGA, XRD, CHN, BET-BJH, SEM, and EDS analyses.

Enantioselective Synthesis of Chiral β-Amino Phosphorus Derivatives via Nickel-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation.

Shanghai Key Laboratory for Molecular Engineering of Chiral Drugs, Frontiers Science Center for Transformative Molecules, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 800 Dongchuan Road, Shanghai 200240, China.

Compared with chiral β-amino phosphorus compounds, which can be easily derived from natural optically pure α-amino acids, obtaining chiral β-amino phosphorus derivatives remains a challenge. These derivatives, which cannot be derived from chiral natural amino acids, possess unique biological activities or potential catalytic activities. Herein, highly enantioselective hydrogenation for the preparation of chiral β-amino phosphorus derivatives from -β-enamido phosphorus compounds is reported by using a green and low-cost earth-abundant metal nickel catalyst (13 examples of 99% ee).

Pentose oxidation and reduction, processes yielding value-added sugar-derived acids and alcohols, typically involve separate procedures necessitating distinct reaction conditions. In this study, a novel one-pot reaction for the concurrent production of xylonic acid and xylitol from xylose is proposed. This reaction was executed at ambient temperature in the presence of a base, eliminating the need for external gases, by leveraging Pt-supported catalysts.

Hf Doping Boosts the Excellent Activity and Durability of Fe-N-C Catalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reaction and Li-O Batteries.

Developing highly active and durable non-noble metal catalysts is crucial for energy conversion and storage, especially for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) and lithium-oxygen (Li-O) batteries. Non-noble metal catalysts are considered the greatest potential candidates to replace noble metal catalysts in PEMFCs and Li-O batteries. Herein, we propose a novel type of non-noble metal catalyst (Fe-Hf/N/C) doped with Hf into a mesoporous carbon material derived from Hf-ZIF-8 and co-doping with Fe and N, which greatly enhanced the activity and durability of the catalyst.
