Objective: To objectively evaluate the clinical therapeutic effect of tongfengkang (TFK) in treating acute gouty arthritis.
Methods: Adopting randomized single blinded controlled trial, the 40 patients were equally divided into two groups. The tested group was treated with TFK, the control group was treated with indomethacin and allopurinol, the therapeutic course for both groups was 10 days.
Results: The clinical cure rate in the tested group and the control group was 30% and 35% respectively, and the total effective rate 90% and 95% respectively, with no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). The scores of blood uric acid and symptom significantly lowered in both groups after treatment (P < 0.01), but showed no significant difference between them (P > 0.05). Adverse reaction to the treatment was shown in 3 patients in the control group.
Conclusion: The therapeutic effect of TFK is similar to that of indomethacin plus allopurinol but with less adverse reaction, it is an effective and safe remedy for treatment of acute gouty arthritis, and worthy for further studying and developing.

Gout is a systemic metabolic disorder caused by elevated uric acid (UA) levels, affecting over 1% of the population. The most common complication of gout is gouty arthritis (GA), characterized by swelling, pain or tenderness in peripheral joints or bursae, which can lead to the formation of tophi. At present, western medicines like colchicine, febuxostat and allopurinol are the primary treatment strategy to alleviate pain and prevent flare-ups in patients with GA, but they have significant side effects and increased mortality risks.

Gouty arthritis is a common arthritic disease caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the joints and the tissues around it. The main pathogenesis of gout is the inflammation caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals. Omics studies help us evaluate global changes in gout during recent years, but most studies used only a single omics approach to illustrate the mechanisms of gout.

Introduction: Gouty arthritis is a common inflammatory condition caused by the deposition of uric acid crystals in the joints, leading to intense pain, swelling, and functional impairment. Thermal therapies, including hot and cold fomentation, are often used as adjunctive treatments for managing inflammation and pain in various musculoskeletal conditions. However, the efficacy of these therapies in acute gout remains underexplored.

: The objective of our study was to evaluate the association and frequency of subcutaneous lymphedema in patients with gout primarily affecting the feet. : In 79 patients with acute gout, ultrasound (US) and dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) were performed to assess the presence of subcutaneous edema and extra- and intra-articular gouty deposits. In addition, the diagnostic utility of two post-processing DECT protocols were evaluated, comprising different minimum attenuation thresholds of 150 HU (DECT 150 protocol) and 120 HU (DECT 120 protocol), with the same maximum attenuation threshold (500 HU) and constant kilovoltage setting of tubes A and B at 80 and 140 kVp.
