The aim of this paper is to review recent trends in the application of ground based radon observations to atmospheric research. In spite of over four decades of atmospheric radon monitoring, only in the past decade has the potential of this passive tracer been realised through a series of atmospheric model evaluation studies. Firstly, the key operational requirements for baseline radon detectors are briefly discussed, including lower limit of detection and response time. Then, current radon-related benchmarks for the evaluation of regional and global models are reviewed, with particular consideration given to the implications of data availability, resolution, site location and model spatial/temporal resolution. An 8-year subset of radon observations from the Cape Grim Baseline Air Pollution Station is used to suggest new benchmarks that exploit long-term data sets. Lastly an overview is presented of a technique that uses radon to estimate regional fluxes of climatically sensitive gases, with specific examples for CO2, CH4 and N2O.

Integrating energy donor and acceptor chromophores as ligands within one MOF for advanced artificial photosynthesis is of great interest but appears to be a major challenge. Herein, via a simple one-pot synthetic strategy, an energy acceptor porphyrin ligand 5,15-di(p-benzoato)porphyrin (HDPBP) was successfully integrated into an energy donor 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (HNDC)-based MOF (UiO-66-NDC) to construct a mixed-ligand MOF, donated as UiO-66-NDC-HDPBP. Benefiting from the ample overlap between the emission spectrum of HNDC and the absorption spectrum of HDPBP, an efficient energy transfer (EnT) process from the donor HNDC to the acceptor HDPBP within UiO-66-NDC-HDPBP can occur and be captured by time-resolved spectroscopy.

Directing depolarization efforts toward those with authority over public health funding and population health policies has great potential to improve health outcomes. Two nonpartisan legislative and executive branch state leadership programs demonstrated personal growth and mutual respect among participants necessary for depolarization that was evidenced by cross-state and cross-party policy implementation. Intentional cohort selection of politically and demographically diverse participants, ground rules based on fundamental values, and curriculum emphasizing collective problem-solving built trust and curiosity despite differing viewpoints.

The Golfão Maranhense is an extensive estuarine complex that provides nursery grounds and other habitats for several fish species, as well as a wealth of resources for the coastal and estuarine artisanal fisheries of the Maranhão state, in northern Brazil. The present study provides a comprehensive inventory of marine and estuarine teleost fishes of the Golfão Maranhense based on field samplings, analyses of voucher specimens from local collections and literature data. This inventory presents a total of 163 species of teleosts belonging to 107 genera, 57 families and 27 orders.

Three-dimensional electrospun foams are emerging in a diversity of applications. However, their characterisation involves procedures to calculate fibre diameter and porosity, which take considerable time. Hence, in this paper, an in situ characterisation method is presented based on signal features of the grounding voltage.
