CO photodesorption from Pt(111) induced by femtosecond laser pulses is probed by IR+visible sum frequency generation (SFG). Steady state analysis of SFG spectra at varying CO pressure and laser fluence allows one to measure a approximately 5 orders of magnitude decrease of the photodesorption rate constant when CO coverage decreases from 0.37 to 0.07 monolayer. We ascribe this effect in the framework of the Menzel-Gomer-Redhead mechanism to electron delocalization in the CO layer. The lifetime of electronic excitation decreases when coverage decreases.

In response to the increasing emergence of zoonotic pathogens, flexible, multisectoral surveillance systems capable of generating alerts thanks to rapid, nonspecific detection, are crucial before pathogens reach human populations. Syndromic surveillance has proven to be a breakthrough for near real-time disease surveillance in the public health sector. It relies on existing nonspecific data, usually collected for other purposes.

Background: Some studies have suggested that complications during pregnancy, such as preeclampsia, leiomyoma during pregnancy, oxytocin induction, and mode of delivery, may be risk factors for neonatal jaundice. Herein, we applied Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate a causal association between pregnancy disorders and neonatal jaundice.
Methods: Data related to neonatal jaundice and pregnancy disorders (including pre-eclampsia or eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and gestational edema) were sourced from the FinnGen Consortium and Integrated Epidemiology Unit (IEU) databases.

Dietitians are uniquely positioned to promote the Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet), a diet recognized for its health benefits and sustainability. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitudes regarding the MedDiet among dietitians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and to examine the frequency and correlates of using this diet in clinical practice. Practicing dietitians (n = 220) completed a 44-item web-based questionnaire, verified for face, content and construct validity, as well as internal and parallel form reliability.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the potential impacts of the introduction of a smoke-free generation (SFG) policy in Canada with a perpetual ban on cigarette sales to anyone born after 2009 instigated on 1 January 2025.
Methods: An existing Canadian model relating to smoking cessation was adapted and augmented to assess the impact of an SFG policy on quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), life expectancy, health care costs, smoking-related taxes, and Canadian tobacco industry gross domestic product (GDP). The cumulative impact of the policy for the entire Canadian population was assessed for time horizons up to 90 years with an annual discount rate of 1.
