The relative strengths of Rashba and Dresselhaus terms describing the spin-orbit coupling in semiconductor quantum well (QW) structures are extracted from photocurrent measurements on n-type InAs QWs containing a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). This novel technique makes use of the angular distribution of the spin-galvanic effect at certain directions of spin orientation in the plane of a QW. The ratio of the relevant Rashba and Dresselhaus coefficients can be deduced directly from experiment and does not relay on theoretically obtained quantities. Thus our experiments open a new way to determine the different contributions to spin-orbit coupling.

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites play a critical role in modern optoelectronic applications, particularly as single photon sources due to their unusual bright ground state. However, the presence of trap states resulting from surface dangling bonds hinders their widespread commercial application. This work uses density functional theory (DFT) to study the effects of various passivating ligands and their binding sites on Rashba splitting, a phenomenon directly linked to the bright ground state.

We report the experimental observation of trembling quantum motion, or Zitterbewegung, of exciton polaritons in a perovskite microcavity at room temperature. By introducing liquid-crystal molecules into the microcavity, we achieve spinor states with synthetic Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling and tunable energy splitting. Under a resonant excitation, the polariton fluid exhibits clear trembling motion perpendicular to its flowing direction, accompanied by a unique spin pattern resembling interlocked fingers.

Dimensionality engineering plays a pivotal role in optimizing the performance, ensuring long-term stability, and expanding the versatile applications of lead halide perovskites (LHPs). Currently, the manipulation of LHP dimensions primarily occurs during the synthesis stage, a procedure hampered by constraints, including synthetic complexity and irreversibility. This investigation successfully achieved a transition from one-dimensional (1D) to two-dimensional (2D) structures in chiral LHPs by applying hydrostatic pressure.

Two-dimensional (2D) nonmagnetic semiconductors with large Rashba-Dresselhaus (R-D) spin splitting hold promise for applications in electric-field-controlled spintronics. Current research primarily focuses on metal-based R-D materials. A natural question is whether significant R-D spin splitting can be realized in metal-free organic systems.
