No nerve fibers are found in endometriomas or in the endometrioma-containing ovaries. These findings are consistent with our previous report that no correlation exists between the presence of nerve fibers and endometriosis.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) are non-invasive therapies widely used for pain relief and neuromuscular adaptation. However, the clinical research supporting the efficacy of TENS in chronic pain management is limited by significant methodological flaws, including small sample sizes and inconsistent reporting of stimulation parameters. TENS modulates pain perception through various techniques, targeting specific nerve fibers and pain pathways.

A rare haplotype of the GJD3 gene segregating in familial Meniere's disease interferes with connexin assembly.

Genome Med

January 2025

Otology & Neurotology Group CTS495, Instituto de Investigación Biosanitario, Ibs.GRANADA, Universidad de Granada, 18071, Granada, Spain.

Background: Familial Meniere's disease (FMD) is a rare polygenic disorder of the inner ear. Mutations in the connexin gene family, which encodes gap junction proteins, can also cause hearing loss, but their role in FMD is largely unknown.

Methods: We retrieved exome sequencing data from 94 individuals in 70 Meniere's disease (MD) families.

Current Concepts of the Management of Painful Traumatic Peripheral Nerve Neuromas.

J Am Acad Orthop Surg

November 2024

From the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery, National University Health System, Singapore (Lee), the Department of Orthopedic Surgery (Sammarco), the Department of Neurosurgery (Spinner), Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, and the Division of Hand and Microvascular Surgery, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN (Shin).

Painful neuromas are a complex clinical condition that results in notable disability and functional impairment after injury to a peripheral nerve. When regenerating axons lack a distal target, they form a stump neuroma. Up to 60% of neuromas are painful because of mechanical sensitivity and crosstalk between nerve fibers.

Alzheimer's disease is a complex neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive decline in cognitive function and behaviour. Ginger is the rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale Roscoe, has been an important ingredient of many Ayurveda formulations to treat neurological disorders. The present study aims to estimate the variation of 6-gingerol content in nine different ginger samples collected from Manipur, India, investigate the neuroprotective potential of the most potent ginger sample against scopolamine-induced cognitively impaired mice, and validate the therapeutic claim by molecular docking analysis.

Anatomy-driven segmentation of parafoveal optical coherence tomography (OCT) measures may improve associations with clinical outcomes in multiple sclerosis.

J Neurol

January 2025

Jacobs Comprehensive MS Treatment and Research Center, Department of Neurology, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Buffalo, NY, USA.

Background: Previous investigations on optical coherence tomography (OCT) in multiple sclerosis (MS) focused on generalizable macular and peri-papillary regions without considering the anatomic variations of the retinal layer thickness.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the utility of parafoveal retinal layer thickness measured by OCT, underscoring its relationships with clinical outcomes in MS.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 214 people with MS (pwMS) and 57 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled.
