The author considers how an emphasis on the achievements of biomedical science has contributed to a loss of human understanding and increased cynicism and dissatisfaction in the practice of medicine. A balanced approach to health care requires attention to both the biological and humanistic aspects of our patients' lives. Awareness and acceptance of our own individual weaknesses and strengths as physicians are also essential to understanding and appreciating the full range of needs in our patients, a process that ultimately leads to compassionate care.

Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD; The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, MD.
Objective: To determine the association between concurrent statin use with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and lung cancer-specific and overall mortality in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Materials And Methods: SEER-Medicare was used to conduct a retrospective study of Medicare beneficiaries ≥65 years of age diagnosed with NSCLC between 2007 and 2017 treated with an ICI. Patients were followed from date of first ICI claim until death, 1 month from last ICI claim, or 12/31/2018, whichever came first.

Serological studies uniquely strengthen infectious disease surveillance, expanding prevalence estimates to encompass asymptomatic infections, and revealing the otherwise inapparent landscape of immunity, including who is and is not susceptible to infection. They are thus a powerful complement to often incomplete epidemiological and public health measures (administrative measures of vaccination coverage, incidence estimates, etc.).

Background: Voice analysis has emerged as a potential biomarker for mood state detection and monitoring in bipolar disorder (BD). The systematic review aimed to summarize the evidence for voice analysis applications in BD, examining (1) the predictive validity of voice quality outcomes for mood state detection, and (2) the correlation between voice parameters and clinical symptom scales.
Methods: A PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library search was carried out by two investigators for publications investigating voice quality in BD according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statements.
