Chiral gratings with double helix symmetry were produced by twisting glass optical fiber with a noncircular core cross section as it passed through a miniature oven. We observed polarization-selective transmission in chiral fibers with pitches of tens of micrometers. Two modes of optical interaction were differentiated. In chirallong-period gratings, dips in transmission were observed at wavelengths associated with scattering into distinct cladding modes mediated by the chiral grating. In chiral intermediateperiod gratings, a broad scattering band was observed. These gratings can be used to produce sharp or broad polarization-selective filters.

The synthesis of chiral -difluorinated spiro-heterocyclic compounds continues to be a significant challenge in organic chemistry due to their widespread applications across various fields. Therefore, efficient asymmetric approaches for the synthesis of -difluorinated spiroindanone-dihydroquinazolinones are particularly valuable, especially in the industrial manufacturing of chiral fluorinated drugs. Herein, we developed the CPA-catalyzed asymmetric enantioselective cyclization reactions of -difluoroalkyl 1,3-indandiones with anthranilamides to achieve various chiral 2,2-difluoro-spiroindanone-dihydroquinazolinones in good to high yields with excellent enantioselectivities.

The development of chirality descriptors for quantitative chirality structure-activity relationship (QCSAR) modeling has always attracted attention, owing to the importance of chiral molecules in pharmaceutical, agriculture, food, and fragrance industries, and environmental toxicology.
