Background: Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) is infrequently performed in older women, at least in part owing to concerns regarding age-related complications. We describe postoperative outcomes of NSM in older women and risk factors for complications, with the goal of informing patient selection and decision-making.
Patients And Methods: Cases of NSM with immediate implant-based reconstruction were identified from an institutional database (2009-2019).

Background: How tauopathy disrupts direct entorhinal cortex (EC) inputs to CA1 and their plasticity is understudied, despite its critical role in memory. Moreover, dysfunction of lateral EC (LEC) input is less clear, despite its relevance to early Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis. Here we examined how tau impacts long-term potentiation (LTP) of LEC→CA1 input in a transgenic model of tauopathy.

Background: As surgical interventions for lymphedema become increasingly available, it is important to understand characteristics of patients that undergo lymphedema surgery. The goal of this study was to define clinical variables of patients evaluated at a medical center who underwent lymphedema surgery to better inform which referred patients are surgical candidates.
Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was performed on patients referred to plastic surgery for lymphedema between January 2016 and June 2023.

Background: Predicting treated language improvement (TLI) and transfer to the untreated language (cross-language generalization, CLG) after speech-language therapy in bilingual individuals with poststroke aphasia is crucial for personalized treatment planning. This study evaluated machine learning models to predict TLI and CLG and identified the key predictive features (eg, patient severity, demographics, and treatment variables) aligning with clinical evidence.
Methods: Forty-eight Spanish-English bilingual individuals with poststroke aphasia received 20 sessions of semantic feature-based naming treatment in either their first or second language.

Opioids are often part of the post-operative pain regimen after orthopaedic surgery. Novel multimodal post-operative pain control regimens have been developed to decrease the amount of opioid usage due to their negative side effects including nausea, constipation, and addiction. The purpose of this study was to compare the cost of postoperative pain management treatment methods after orthopaedic surgery between opioid/acetaminophen therapy and an opioid-free, multidrug, multimodal pathway.
