An 18-year-old male patient from Ukraine, living in Germany for 2 years, presented with a painless subcutaneous swelling on the left cheek that had been present for several months. Finally, the diagnosis of subcutaneous dirofilariasis caused by was confirmed by 12S rRNA gene PCR and sequencing from tissue by nematode-specific PCRs followed by sequencing after surgical resection of the lesion. Microfilaremia was ruled out and no further treatment was required.

Subcutaneous eyelid dirofilariasis is a rare parasitic infection that can be mistaken for eyelid tumors due to its unusual presentation. In this report, we examine two cases in which patients initially presented with eyelid swellings that were initially diagnosed and treated as preseptal cellulitis in another medical facility. These patients were subsequently referred to our facility to rule out the possibility of a lid tumor.

This study investigates the efficacy of a sustained-release (SR) moxidectin microsphere formulation in preventing canine heartworm infection over 18 months in Canary Hound dogs, a hunting breed common in the Canary Islands, which is a hyperendemic region. These dogs typically do not receive preventive treatments and act as reservoirs for the disease. This field study was conducted across 11 hunting kennels with 109 dogs living outdoors, none of whom were receiving heartworm prophylaxis, with prevalence ranging from 11.
