Background And Objectives: To report a case series of endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) using laser in 40 consecutive patients with obstructive hydrocephalus.
Study Design/materials And Methods: Under stereotactic and endoscopic guidance, multiple perforations in the ventricular floor using a 1.32 microm neodymium-yttrium/aluminum/garnet (Nd-YAG) or a 0.805 microm diode laser unit and removal of intervening coagulated tissue ensued with a 4-6 mm opening between third ventricle and basilar cisterns.
Results: The procedure could be completed in all cases. A transient complication occurred in five cases. In 39 patients (mean follow-up 28 months), 31 (79%) had a favorable outcome. Failure occurred in six patients, requiring permanent shunting leading to complete recovery, and two patients remained in a poor clinical status despite ETV.
Conclusions: Laser-assisted ETV is a safe and efficient procedure for the treatment of obstructive hydrocephalus. Laser is advantageous in cases of distorted anatomy and may reduce technical failures.

Introduction: What interventions effectively prevent postoperative stenosis following endoscopic resection (ER) of superficial esophageal cancer? This study aimed to identify effective interventions or combinations through a systematic review and network meta-analysis.
Methods: Six databases were systematically searched for eligible studies up to 30 April 2023, on interventions to prevent esophageal stenosis post-ER. Odds ratios (ORs) evaluated stenosis rate (primary outcome) and complications (secondary outcome), while mean differences (MD) evaluated endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) sessions post-stenosis.

Optimal fluid strategy for laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) remains unclear. LDN has been a domain for liberal fluid management to ensure graft perfusion, but this can result in adverse outcomes due to fluid overload. We compared postoperative outcome of living kidney donors according to the intraoperative fluid management.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading culprit of cancer-related deaths around the world. Beta-sitosterol (BS) is an important phytosterol that has been proven to have anti-proliferative effects on GC and other tumors. However, mechanisms and targets of BS in cancer are rarely explored.

: Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in men and women. With advancements in technology, minimally invasive treatment options have become increasingly prominent in colorectal cancer surgery. This study aimed to compare the increased intra-abdominal pressure in laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery with open procedures using kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) secreted from renal tubules.

: Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are set to revolutionize healthcare, particularly in fields like endoscopic surgery that heavily rely on digital imaging. However, to effectively integrate these technologies and drive future innovations, pediatric surgeons need specialized AI/ML skills. This survey evaluated the current level of readiness and educational needs regarding AI/ML among members of the European Society of Pediatric Endoscopic Surgeons (ESPES).
