Background: Laparoscopic appendectomy is one of the most common emergency surgeries. There is a paucity in the literature regarding the incidence and management of iatrogenic bladder injuries. We reviewed a series of iatrogenic bladder injuries during laparoscopic appendectomy to determine incidence, preventable risk factors and management.

Background: Limb-salvage surgery for malignant bone tumors can be associated with considerable perioperative blood loss. The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to assess the safety and efficacy of the intraoperative infusion of tranexamic acid (TXA) in children and adolescents undergoing limb-salvage surgery.
Methods: All participants were <18 years of age at the time of surgery and diagnosed with a malignant bone tumor of the femur that was treated with resection and reconstruction with a megaprosthesis.

Background: Patients with diabetes are at a high risk for perioperative ischemic stroke (PIS). The use of biomarkers to identify high-risk patients and predict PIS may provide considerable reference value in clinical decision-making. The aspartate transaminase/alanine transaminase ratio (De Ritis ratio) has been proven to be associated with specific diabetic complications.

Interventional Radiology (IR) can be a crucial player in managing placenta accrete spectrum disorder (PAS), offering minimally invasive angiographic techniques that can prevent or control hemorrhage and preserve fertility. These include prophylactic balloon occlusion of the aorta or iliac arteries, preoperative catheter placement in the iliac or uterine arteries for subsequent embolization, or pre-emptive arterial embolization preceding hysterotomy and delivery. This review provides obstetricians with an overview of IR's role in the management of PAS by describing specific endovascular techniques; existing outcomes data; and considerations for protocol development, preoperative planning, and intraoperative dynamics for when IR assists with PAS cases.

Background: For surgical procedures of the upper limbs, ultrasound-guided supraclavicular brachial plexus block (SCBPB) represents a safe substitute for general anesthesia. The present study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of incorporating 1μg/kg dexmedetomidine (DEX) into 20 ml bupivacaine, as opposed to using 20 ml and 30 ml bupivacaine without additives, in SCBPB.
Methods: This randomized, controlled, double-blind study included 75 patients assigned to elective upper-limb surgery under the mid-humerus level.
