Frustrated Magnetism and Spin Anisotropy in a Buckled Square Net YbTaO.

Inorg Chem

December 2024

School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia 30332, United States.

The interplay between quantum effects from magnetic frustration, low-dimensionality, spin-orbit coupling, and crystal electric field in rare-earth materials leads to nontrivial ground states with unusual magnetic excitations. Here, we investigate YbTaO, which hosts a buckled square net of Yb ions with = 1/2 moments. The observed Curie-Weiss temperature is about -1 K, implying an antiferromagnetic coupling between the Yb moments.

Assessment of radon level and the associated radiological risk from soil samples of quarry area at Hakim Gara, Ethiopia.

Environ Monit Assess

December 2024

School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences, University of Ghana, Atomic Campus, P.O. Box LG 80 Legon, Accra, Ghana.

Excavation of terrestrial surface of the Earth could enhance the chance of exposure to radon while gases in the underground get access to escape. This study was aimed to assess the level of radon concentration from soil samples of quarrying sites at Hakim Gara in Ethiopia using CR-39 detectors in sealed container technique. The results of the measured radon concentration level were ranging from 164.

Breast cancer is a leading cause of mortality among women in Taiwan and globally. Non-invasive imaging methods, such as mammography and ultrasound, are critical for early detection, yet standalone modalities have limitations in regard to their diagnostic accuracy. This study aims to enhance breast cancer detection through a cross-modality fusion approach combining mammography and ultrasound imaging, using advanced convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures.

Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) exposure through dairy products is associated with adverse health effects, including hepatotoxicity and carcinogenicity. Therefore, the AFM1 presence in milk and dairy products is strictly regulated. In this context, the current work focuses on the investigation of different competitive enzyme immunoassay configurations for the determination of AFM1 in milk with high sensitivity and short assay duration.

Developing a Mobile Application for Estimating Patient's Radiation Dose.

J Biomed Phys Eng

December 2024

Department of Radiological Technology, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Naresuan University, Mueang, Phitsanulok, Thailand.

In diagnostic radiology, entrance surface air kerma (ESAK) is one of the patient radiation dose quantities, and the effective dose is used as an estimator of possible risk for radiation exposure level. Calculation of the ESAK and effective dose requires both X-ray machine parameters and patient exposure parameters. Due to the high performance of smartphones and the increase in mobile applications, this study aimed to develop a mobile application to estimate the ESAK and effective dose in general radiography.
