Article Abstract

The number of total hip and knee arthroplasty patients in The Netherlands will increase progressively in the coming decades. A reaction to this trend is a shortening of hospital stays. This however should not result in uncertainty, lack of information and unnecessary medical consumption by patients at home. Based on insights from social cognitive theory, an exit strategy is described to support patients during their rehabilitation at home. It is our hypothesis that patients who participate in such a support program will be able to resume activities of daily living more quickly and effectively, and will reach higher levels of physical activity compared to patients who only follow the shortened program. To determine the effectiveness of the exit strategy, mediating variables (self-efficacy, social support and pain coping) and outcome variables (activities of daily living, physical activity behavior, health-related quality of life and gait analysis) will be measured.

Exit interviews from two randomised placebo-controlled phase 3 studies with caregivers of young children with autism spectrum disorder.

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterised by difficulty with social communication and restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour. This study aimed to improve understanding of the ASD patient experience with the treatment (bumetanide) regarding the changes in core symptoms and to assess changes considered as meaningful. To achieve this, qualitative interviews were conducted with caregivers of patients in two phase 3 clinical trials (NCT03715153; NCT03715166) of a novel ASD treatment.

Purpose: Chronic graft-versus-host-disease (cGVHD), an inflammatory condition affecting allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) survivors, is associated with a range of debilitating physical and psychological sequela. Yet HCT recipients with cGVHD are virtually absent from survivorship intervention research. We conducted a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a multidisciplinary group coping skills intervention (Horizons) tailored to meet these patients' unique needs.

Given the increasing urban population and frenetic mobility, understanding how individuals perceive crowding at large-scale events is crucial for effective crowd management and safety. This study focuses on Tokyo Big Sight in Japan exhibitions to examine participants' perceptions of peak crowding times, locations, and local density, and compare them with the actual measurements. Our methodology integrated questionnaires with beacon tag data.

Costs of outpatient services at selected primary healthcare centers in Bangladesh: A cross-sectional study.

Health Economics and Financing, Health Systems and Population Studies Division, icddr,b, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Background: Upazila Health Complexes (UzHC) serve as the backbone of primary healthcare (PHC) at the sub-district level in Bangladesh, delivering comprehensive healthcare services including both inpatient and outpatient services to the grassroots levels. However, not all the prescribed medicines and diagnostics services are always available at these facilities for outpatient care. This results in out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) to the patients for getting prescribed medicines and diagnostics services which has not been properly explored.

Translational nanorobotics breaking through biological membranes.

Chem Soc Rev

In the dynamic realm of translational nanorobotics, the endeavor to develop nanorobots carrying therapeutics in rational applications necessitates a profound understanding of the biological landscape of the human body and its complexity. Within this landscape, biological membranes stand as critical barriers to the successful delivery of therapeutic cargo to the target site. Their crossing is not only a challenge for nanorobotics but also a pivotal criterion for the clinical success of therapeutic-carrying nanorobots.
