A new scheme is described for the generation of pulsed squeezed light by use of femtosecond pulses that have been parametrically deamplified through a single pass in a thin (100-microm) potassium niobate crystal with a significant deamplification of approximately -3 dB. The quantum noise of each pulse is registered in the time domain by single-shot homodyne detection operated with femtosecond pulses; the best squeezed quadrature variance was 1.87 dB below the shot-noise level. Such a scheme provides a basic resource for time-resolved quantum communication protocols.

Attosecond observations of coherent electron dynamics in molecules and nanostructures can be achieved by combining conventional scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) with ultrashort femtosecond laser pulses. While experimental studies in the subcycle regime are under way, a robust strong-field theory description has remained elusive. Here we devise a model based on the strong-field approximation.

Traditional deep fluorescence imaging has primarily focused on red-shifting imaging wavelengths into the near-infrared (NIR) windows or implementation of multi-photon excitation approaches. Here, we combine the advantages of NIR and multiphoton imaging by developing a dual-infrared two-photon microscope to enable high-resolution deep imaging in biological tissues. We first computationally identify that photon absorption, as opposed to scattering, is the primary contributor to signal attenuation.

Signal amplification strategies are essential for enhancing the sensitivity and accuracy of analytical methods. This study introduces an innovative approach that utilizes the nonlinear process of femtosecond laser filamentation as a signal amplifier in combination with metal-organic framework (MOF)-polymer adsorbents. In this method, metal ions adsorbed in the MOF-polymer composite alter the intensity and temporal characteristics of an 800 nm femtosecond laser pulse.

Photosystem II (PSII) is a unique natural catalyst that converts solar energy into chemical energy using earth abundant elements in water at physiological pH. Understanding the reaction mechanism will aid the design of biomimetic artificial catalysts for efficient solar energy conversion. The MnOCa cluster cycles through five increasingly oxidized intermediates before oxidizing two water molecules into O and releasing protons to the lumen and electrons to drive PSII reactions.

This paper reports on the use of coherent microwave scattering (CMS) for spatially resolved electron number density measurements of elongated plasma structures induced at mid-IR femtosecond filamentation in air. The presented studies comprise one-dimensional mapping of laser filaments induced via 3.9 µm, 127.
