Objective: To evaluate if preoperative radiotherapy influences course of operation (radical hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy) and postoperative period in series of stage IB-IIA cervical carcinomas.

Methods: Retrospective comparative study was performed. During the study we analyzed 101 case histories of patients who underwent radical type II hysterectomy with lymphadenectomy in Kaunas University of Medicine Hospital and Kaunas Hospital of Oncology between 1995 and 2002.

Results: Mean operation time was shorter, hemoglobin and hematocrit values after operation were better, stay in hospital was longer, demand for narcotic analgetics was bigger, function of ovaries was maintained more rarely (p<0.05) in the group of patients undergoing preoperative radiotherapy. The number of patients requiring transfusions and count of complications were similar in both groups (p>0.05).

Conclusion: In our study, preoperative radiotherapy did not seem to complicate course of radical hysterectomy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify predictive biomarkers for tumor recurrence in Stage IB-IIA Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma (CSCC) after surgical treatment by analyzing differences between recurrence and non-recurrence patients.
  • Researchers utilized mRNA sequencing and multiplexed immunohistochemistry on patients followed for about three years.
  • Key findings suggested that certain gene expressions, activation of specific pathways, and immune cell characteristics may indicate a higher risk of recurrence, providing potential targets for future treatment strategies.

Department of Radiology, Research Institute for Convergence of Biomedical Science and Technology, Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital, Pusan National University School of Medicine, 20, Geumo-ro, Mulgeum-eup, Yangsan 50612, Korea.

Although radiology reports are commonly used for lung cancer staging, this task can be challenging given radiologists' variable reporting styles as well as reports' potentially ambiguous and/or incomplete staging-related information. The purpose of this study was to compare the performance of ChatGPT large language models (LLMs) and human readers of varying experience in lung cancer staging using chest CT and FDG PET/CT free-text reports. This retrospective study included 700 patients (mean age, 73.

A Diagnostic Nomogram Incorporating Prognostic Nutritional Index for Predicting Vaginal Invasion in Stage IB - IIA Cervical Cancer.

Cancer Control

August 2024

Department of Gynecology, Clinical Oncology School of Fujian Medical University, Fujian Cancer Hospital, Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China.

Introduction: With the advancements in cancer prevention and diagnosis, the proportion of newly diagnosed early-stage cervical cancers has increased. Adjuvant therapies based on high-risk postoperative histopathological factors significantly increase the morbidity of treatment complications and seriously affect patients' quality of life.

Objectives: Our study aimed to establish a diagnostic nomogram for vaginal invasion (VI) among early-stage cervical cancer (CC) that can be used to reduce the occurrence of positive or close vaginal surgical margins.
