Pharmacological and challenge study data showed an involvement of the serotonergic system in the development of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). We studied transmission disequilibrium of polymorphisms in three candidate genes of the serotonergic pathway in 64 trios comprising patients with early onset OCD and both of their parents. Polymorphisms of the following genes were studied: tryptophan hydroxylase 1 (rs1800532), serotonin transporter (polymorphism in the promoter region; 5-HTTLPR) and the serotonin 1 B receptor (rs6296). This is, to our knowledge, one of the first family based association studies pertaining to children and adolescents with OCD. We did not detect transmission disequilibrium of the investigated polymorphisms in OCD. Hence, these polymorphisms do not play a major role in the genetic predisposition to early onset OCD.

Methods: Structured interviews were conducted with BD patients and their parents. Cases were classified into those with comorbid anxiety spectrum (AS) and those without.
Background: The limited efficacy of the two recently approved malaria vaccines, RTS,S/AS01 and R21/Matrix- M™, highlights the need for alternative vaccine candidate genes. Plasmodium falciparum Reticulocyte Binding Protein Homologue 5 (Pfrh5) is a promising malaria vaccine candidate, given its limited polymorphism, its essential role in parasite survival, a lack of immune selection pressure and higher efficacy against multiple parasites strains. This study evaluated the genetic diversity of Pfrh5 gene among parasites from regions with varying malaria transmission intensities in Mainland Tanzania, to generate baseline data for this potential malaria vaccine candidate.

Lipid metabolism has been shown to regulate EV activity, though the impact of specific lipid classes is unclear. Objective: Oculoauriculovertebral spectrum (OAVS) encompasses abnormalities on derivatives from the first and second pharyngeal arches including macrostomia, hemifacial microsomia, micrognathia, preauricular tags, ocular, and vertebral anomalies. We present genetic findings on a 3-generation family affected with macrostomia, preauricular tags and ptosis following an autosomal dominant pattern.
Design: We generated whole-genome sequencing data for the proband, affected father, and unaffected paternal grandmother followed by Sanger sequencing on 23 family members for the top candidate gene mutations.
