Background: In 2018, the planned opening of a second Needle and Syringe Exchange Program (NSP) unit in Stockholm, Sweden, was stopped with reference to protests from the public. Local Stockholm media cited stakeholders who claimed that the initiative was led by politicians with "zero knowledge about what makes citizens upset" and referred to reported public concern over a preschool located near the planned NSP unit. This case highlights the significant role of the public - and the idea of public opinion - in relation to political and medial aspects of alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues.

A Platform for Ultra-Fast Proton Probing of Matter in Extreme Conditions.

Sensors (Basel)

August 2024

Centro de Laseres Pulsados, Building M5, Science Park, Calle Adaja 8, Villamayor, 37185 Salamanca, Spain.

Recent developments in ultrashort and intense laser systems have enabled the generation of short and brilliant proton sources, which are valuable for studying plasmas under extreme conditions in high-energy-density physics. However, developing sensors for the energy selection, focusing, transport, and detection of these sources remains challenging. This work presents a novel and simple design for an isochronous magnetic selector capable of angular and energy selection of proton sources, significantly reducing temporal spread compared to the current state of the art.

Spontaneous neural activity sequences are generated by the brain in the absence of external input , yet how they are produced remains unknown. During immobility, hippocampal replay sequences depict spatial paths related to the animal's past experience or predicted future . By recording from large ensembles of hippocampal place cells in combination with optogenetic manipulation of cortical input in freely behaving rats, we show here that the selection of hippocampal replay is governed by a novel self-avoidance principle.

Background: Auditory brainstem response (ABR) to the level-specific (LS) CE-Chirp has been reported to provide optimum neural synchrony along cochlear partitions, theoretically improving ABR waveform resolution. Despite this promising finding, limited studies have been conducted to contrast the results between LS CE-Chirp and Click stimuli. The current study aimed to compare the results of ABR between the two stimuli (Click and LS CE-Chirp).
