Study Objective: To introduce a surgical technique to minimize the chance of ureteral injury during laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH).

Design: Retrospective case review (Canadian Task Force classification II-3).

Setting: Show Chwan Memorial Hospital, Changhua, Taiwan.

Patients: Two thousand and six women who underwent LAVH between January 1992 and June 2001.

Intervention: A simple step of creating a "window" over the anterior and posterior broad ligaments to push inferolaterally the areolar tissue (in which the ureter is embedded) on the posterior broad ligament.

Measurements And Main Results: No ureteral injury occurred in patients whose cases were reviewed. There were, however, five bladder injuries (0.25%) and three nerve pareses (0.15%). Other minor complications, including fever, abscess or hematoma of the vaginal cuff, subcutaneous emphysema, and delayed vaginal cuff bleeding, occurred in less than 5% of patients.

Conclusion: The technique proposed is simple and very effective in preventing ureteral injury during LAVH.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to describe the prolene suture-assisted cystoscopic removal of double J ureteral stents in infants and summarize the safety, operability, and effectiveness of this approach.

Methods: The clinic data of patients who underwent double J ureteral stent removal by prolene suture-assisted cystoscopy were reviewed. The operation procedure was as follows: First, a folded 4-0 prolene suture was preset into the cystoscope sheath, and the telescope was placed.

Robotic-assisted laparoscopic nephroureterectomy (RALN) is a common approach for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), offering advantages such as reduced morbidity and improved recovery. However, contralateral ureteral injury during bladder cuff excision is extremely rare and can be challenging to manage. We present the case of a 56-year-old male with low-grade urothelial carcinoma of the right renal pelvis who underwent RALN.

Objective: To measure temperature of the outer ureteral wall and calculate thermal dose with different irrigation and laser power settings during ureteroscopy in a porcine in vivo model.

Methods: The ureters of two porcine subjects were exposed through laparotomy incisions. A length of PFA tubing, with equally spaced windows, was inserted into the ureter through a ureterotomy.

Background: Curcumin has been shown to inhibit renal fibrosis, but whether curcumin mediates renal fibrosis progression by regulating the circular RNA (circRNA)-related pathway remain unclear.

Methods: TGF-β1 was used to construct renal injury and fibrosis cell model. Cell growth was evaluated by cell counting kit 8 assay, EdU assay and flow cytometry.

Background/aim: Transanal total mesorectal excision is a useful technique while performing lower rectal cancer and deep pelvic surgery. However, it is a relatively difficult procedure, and unique complications such as urethral injury have been reported. Although there have been a few reports on urethral visualization, we investigated whether it is possible to visualize the urethra using a fluorescent urethral catheter.
