A general three-dimensional planning program has been developed for hyperthermia treatments for cancer. In this study, the program is used to analyze the three-dimensional temperature distributions generated by interstitial ferromagnetic implants. An empirical power absorption formula developed by Haider for thermally self-regulating nickel-silicon ferromagnetic seeds has been used to calculate the seed power absorption as a function of seed temperature. By properly choosing the seed type (Curie point of seeds), and by using appropriate seed spacing, this heating modality can generate desirable three-dimensional temperature distributions for many different situations over a fairly large range of blood perfusion values. Detailed information regarding the choice of the Curie points of the seeds and the seed spacing for certain blood perfusions is also given as a quantitative guide for treatment planning.

The application of a three-dimensional (3D)-printed biological functional scaffold in the repair of bone defects is a promising strategy. In this study, strontium-containing hydroxyapatite (SrHA) powder was synthesized by the hydrothermal method, and then poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/HA and PCL/SrHA composite scaffolds were prepared by the high-temperature melt extrusion 3D printing technology. The basic physical and chemical properties, in vitro biological properties, osteogenesis, and angiogenesis abilities of the scaffold were studied.

The accurate estimation of the temperature distribution of the GaN based power devices and optimization of the device structure is of great significance to possibly solve the self-heating problem, which hinders the further enhancement of the device performances. We present here the operando temperature measurement with high spatial resolution using Raman spectroscopy of AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) with different device structures and explore the optimization of the device thermal design accordingly. The lateral and depth temperature distributions of the single-finger HEMT were characterized.

Methyl side-groups control the 3̄ phase in core-non-symmetric aryloyl-hydrazine-based molecules.

Control of the formation of liquid crystalline 3̄ gyroid phases and their nanostructures is critical to advance materials chemistry based on the structural feature of three-dimensional helical networks. Here, we present that introducing methyl side-group(s) and slight non-symmetry into aryloyl-hydrazine-based molecules is unexpectedly crucial for their formation and can be a new design strategy through tuning intermolecular interactions: the two chemical modifications in the core portion of the chain-core-chain type molecules effectively lower and extend the 3̄ phase temperature ranges with the increased twist angle between neighboring molecules along the network. The detailed analyses of the aggregation structure revealed the change in the core assembly mode from the double-layered core mode of the mother molecule (without methyl groups) to the single-layered core mode.

The rigid Fabry-Pérot (F-P) cavity has emerged as the preferred core sensing component for optical pressure, vibration, and acoustic sensing in harsh environments, owing to its high reliability and structural stability. However, due to the inadequate temperature resistance of the optical dielectric film, maintaining a high level of precision in the rigid F-P cavity at elevated temperatures proves to be challenging. Volume Bragg grating (VBG) is a three-dimensional optical element modified by a femtosecond laser within a transparent glass medium to create a periodic refractive index distribution.

Meliorating the behavior deposition of lithium polysulfides (LiPS) is crucial for enhancing the electrochemical performance of sulfur cathodes, which could be implemented by the precise modulation on the catalytic host. Herein, heterostructure engineering is employed to tune up the catalytic capability of CeVO, by introducing CeO through a simple adjustment in the addition sequence of reactants. The formed CeVO/CeO heterostructure has been demonstrated to exhibit appropriate interaction strength with LiPS for accelerating the catalytic conversion process, as well as an engineered surface for inducing three dimensional (3D) LiS deposition, thereby endowing the corresponding sulfur cathodes with excellent electrochemical performance under harsh conditions.
