Objective: To determine the relationship between the extent of the damage and clinical data in Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Methods: Twenty-two patients with AD and twenty-two controls received MR-diffusion tensor scanning. The fractional anisotropy (FA) values of white matter in AD patients were measured respectively in parietal lobe and the genu of corpus callosum. Independent-samples t-test for non-paired data was used to test differences between AD and controls for FA values. Correlation analysis was applied to reveal the correlations between FA values in each region and the MMSE, FOM, RVR, BD and DS scores.
Results: Positive correlations were found between FA values in left parietal lobe and FOM/DS, and between FA values in genu of corpus callosum and MMSE scores.
Conclusions: In AD, the MR-DTI can reflect the relationship between the degree of white matter abnormalities and the cognitive impairment.

Background: Thick fetal corpus callosum (CC) is a rare finding and its significance in isolation is not clear. In this retrospective study, we aim to gain insight into the microarchitecture of CC in a cohort of fetuses with thick and short CC (isolated or associated with mild extra-/intracranial abnormalities) as seen on ultrasound (US), by using prenatal magnetic resonance (MR) diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) with fiber tractography, thereby allowing better characterization for postnatal prognosis.
Methods: Twelve fetuses met the inclusion criteria on US.

Background And Purpose: Despite multimodal treatment of glioblastoma (GBM), recurrence beyond the initial tumor volume is inevitable. Moreover, conventional MRI has shortcomings that hinder the early detection of occult white matter tract infiltration by tumor, but diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a sensitive probe for assessing microstructural changes, facilitating the identification of progression before standard imaging. This sensitivity makes DTI a valuable tool for predicting recurrence.

DTI surpasses conventional MRI in delineating the microstructural integrity of the spinal cord, thereby serving as a potent, non-invasive modality sensitive to white matter pathologies. Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is acknowledged to be a consequence not only of peripheral nerve and root lesions but also of central nervous system abnormalities associated with such damage.

Background: A dietary supplementation with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) was shown to attenuate inflammation and increase the proportions of circulating regulatory T cells (T) and M2-type macrophages in disease models such as autoimmune encephalitis and arteriosclerosis. Since T and anti-inflammatory (M2-type) macrophages were found to enhance stroke recovery, we hypothesized that CLA-supplementation might improve stroke recovery via immune modulatory effects.
Methods: Functional assessment was performed over 90 days after induction of experimental photothrombotic stroke in wild type mice ( = 37, sham = 10).

Cylinder retractors have been developed to reduce the risk of brain retraction injury during surgery by dispersing retraction pressure on the brain. In recent years, various types of cylinder retractors have been developed and widely used in neurosurgery. The ventricles, being deep structures within the brain, present an effective area for cylinder retractor utilization.
