Previously, oncostatin M (OSM) has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer cells in vitro. Circumstantial evidence, however, suggests that OSM could be involved in the development of a metastatic phenotype in vivo. We examined the effects of OSM on the proliferation and metastatic potential of the murine mammary carcinoma cell lines M6 (adenocarcinoma) and M6c (metastatic adenocarcinoma). OSM inhibits the proliferation of both cell lines by 43%, but also causes a loss of cell-cell and cell-substratum adhesion that culminates in cell detachment from monolayer culture. OSM treatment results in a 258% and 550% increase in the detachment of M6 and M6c, respectively, in 32 hours. This effect was abrogated by the selective Cox-2 inhibitor NS-398, and by the anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid dexamethasone. Exogenous prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) partially reverses NS-398's inhibition of OSM-induced cell detachment, indicating Cox-2 involvement. In addition, OSM induces the expression of Cox-2 mRNA, and of the 74 kDa form of Cox-2 protein. M6 and M6c cells detached by OSM are viable and will re-adhere and proliferate in the absence of OSM. OSM-detached cells (M6DET and M6cDET) were collected and maintained in culture and their invasiveness was assessed in vitro. Importantly, M6DET and M6cDET are both significantly more invasive that their respective parental cells. These data suggest that OSM could contribute to the development of a metastatic phenotype in vivo, which would render OSM unsuitable as a cancer therapy and suggest that OSM itself is a potential therapeutic target.

Purpose: Inconsistency exists among reported studies on the composition of human ocular surface microbiome (OSM). The roles of OSM in ocular diseases remain uncertain. In this study, we aimed to determine the composition of OSM and to evaluate its potential roles and functions from multiple cohorts.

Background: While widefield microscopy has long been constrained by out-of-focus scattering, advancements have generated a solution in the form of confocal laser scanning microscopy (cLSM) and optical sectioning microscopy using structured illumination (OSM). In this study, we aim to investigate, using microglia branching, if cLSM and OSM can produce images with comparable morphological characteristics.
Results: By imaging the somatosensory microglia from a tissue slice of a 3-week-old mouse and establishing morphological parameters that characterizes the microglial branching pattern, we were able to show that there is no difference in total length of the branch tree, number of branches, mean branch length and number of primary to terminal branches.

Cross-view geo-localization (CVGL) aims to determine the capture location of street-view images by matching them with corresponding 2D maps, such as satellite imagery. While recent bird's eye view (BEV)-based methods have advanced this task by addressing viewpoint and appearance differences, the existing approaches typically rely solely on either OpenStreetMap (OSM) data or satellite imagery, limiting localization robustness due to single-modality constraints. This paper presents a novel CVGL method that fuses OSM data with satellite imagery, leveraging their complementary strengths to enhance localization robustness.

Oncostatin M (OSM) plays a crucial role in diverse inflammatory reactions. Although the food bioactive compound naringenin (NAR) exerts various useful effects, including antitussive, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, renoprotective, antiarthritic, antitumor, antioxidant, neuroprotective, antidepressant, antinociceptive, antiatherosclerotic, and antidiabetic effects, the modulatory mechanism of NAR on OSM expression in neutrophils has not been specifically reported. In the current work, we studied whether NAR modulates OSM release in neutrophil-like differentiated (d)HL-60 cells.

Antigen presentation plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of immune-mediated disorders. This study aimed to investigate the effects of IFN-γ and a cytokine mix (5MIX: IL-1α, IL-17A, IL-22, OsM, and TNF-α) on the antigen-presenting capabilities of keratinocytes, with a specific focus on immune-mediated dermatological conditions such as psoriasis (Ps). To achieve this, keratinocytes were treated with IFN-γ and 5MIX, and their impact on the expression of key antigen-presentation molecules, HLA-DRα and CD74, was assessed.
