Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility to discriminate the representation sites of lip and tongue movement in the primary motor cortex (PMC). In contrast to preceding studies this research was particularly focused on single subject analysis.
Procedures: Six healthy right-handed volunteers underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) by means of a 1.5 tesla scanner. Using a block design the subjects had to perform two different motor tasks: horizontal tongue movement and symmetrical lip pursing. To ensure that only the functional selective cortical representations for each particular motor task were determined, the approach of contrasting both motor paradigms was followed during data analysis.
Principle Results: Selective cortex activations for both motor tasks were detectable in the motor strips and could be spatially discriminated for the whole group and for the majority of the single subjects in both hemispheres. Furthermore, expanded regions responsive to both motor tasks were found bilaterally.
Conclusions: The individually proven possibility to differentiate the cortical representation sites of tongue and lip movements opens the chance to monitor therapeutic cortical effects after neuro-reconstructive surgery, e. g. hypoglossal-facial nerve anastomosis (HFA).

Within Polynoidae, a diverse aphroditiform family, the subfamily Macellicephalinae comprises anchialine cave-dwelling and deep-sea scaleworms. In this study, Lepidonotopodinae is synonymized with Macellicephalinae, and the tribe Lepidonotopodini is applied to a well-supported clade inhabiting deep-sea chemosynthetic-based ecosystems. Newly sequenced "genome skimming" data for 30 deep-sea polynoids and the comparatively shallow living is used to bioinformatically assemble their mitogenomes.

GLOB-cAGE aims to harmonize non-identifiable data from longitudinal cohorts examining cardiovascular health and cardiovascular disease diagnosis and management in older individuals to perform meta-regression analyses using combined repositories of standardized subject-level data points.

N-methyladenosine (mA) plays a crucial role in enriching RNA functional and genetic information, and the identification of mA modification sites is therefore an important task to promote the understanding of RNA epigenetics. In the identification process, current studies are mainly concentrated on capturing the short-range dependencies between adjacent nucleotides in RNA sequences, while ignoring the impact of long-range dependencies between non-adjacent nucleotides for learning high-quality representation of RNA sequences. In this work, we propose an end-to-end prediction model, called mASLD, to improve the identification accuracy of mA modification sites by capturing the short-range and long-range dependencies of nucleotides.

DNA methylation at age-related CpG (AR-CpG) sites holds significant promise for forensic age estimation. However, somatic models perform poorly in semen due to unique methylation dynamics during spermatogenesis, and current studies are constrained by the limited coverage of methylation microarrays.
