Mutations in the parkin gene cause autosomal-recessive juvenile parkinsonism. Parkin encodes a ubiquitin-protein ligase characterized by having the RBR domain, composed of two RING fingers plus an IBR/DRIL domain. The RBR family is defined as the group of genes whose products contain an RBR domain. RBR family members exist in all eukaryotic species for which significant sequence data is available, including animals, plants, fungi, and several protists. The integration of comparative genomics with structural and functional data allows us to conclude that RBR proteins have multiple roles, not only in protein quality control mechanisms, but also as indirect regulators of transcription. A recently formulated hypothesis, based on a case of gene fusion, suggested that RBR proteins may be often part of cullin-containing ubiquitin ligase complexes. Recent data on Parkin protein agrees with that hypothesis. We discuss the involvement of RBR proteins in several neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

The crystal structures and hyperfine magnetic parameters of EuFe(BO) and mixed EuLaFe(BO) were studied over a wide temperature range in order to analyze correlations of the structural and magnetic features and the phase transitions in multiferroic compounds of the rare-earth iron borate family. The chemical compositions of the crystals are reported from X-ray fluorescence analysis. The crystal structures of EuFe(BO) and EuLaFe(BO) were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the temperature range 25-500 K.

Background: The relationship between the extent and severity of stress-induced ischemia and the extent and severity of anatomic coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with obstructive CAD is multifactorial and includes the intensity of stress achieved, type of testing used, presence and extent of prior infarction, collateral blood flow, plaque characteristics, microvascular disease, coronary vasomotor tone, and genetic factors. Among chronic coronary disease participants with site-determined moderate or severe ischemia, we investigated associations between ischemia severity on stress testing and the extent of CAD on coronary computed tomography angiography.
Methods: Clinically indicated stress testing included nuclear imaging, echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, or nonimaging exercise tolerance test.

is widely used in the laboratory as an infection model for the research on pathogenesis and host defense against gram-positive intracellular bacteria. Macroautophagy (called simply "autophagy" hereafter), is important in the host defense against pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites. BECN1 plays a pivotal role in the initiation of autophagy and accumulating evidence indicates that post-translational modifications of BECN1 provide multiple strategies for autophagy regulation.

E3 ligases are essential for ubiquitination and play a role in regulating various aspects of eukaryotic life. Ariadne (ARI) proteins, a subfamily of RBR (RING-between-RING) proteins, have been recognized as a new class of RING-finger E3 ligases. Recent research has shed light on their potential involvement in plants' responses to abiotic stress.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an early intervention program, e-EARLY TOGETHER, that combines goal-oriented training, parental coaching, environmental enrichment in a telehealth approach in a low- and middle-income country.
Methods: Protocol for a randomized controlled clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of e-EARLY TOGETHER intervention compared to standard guidelines on outcomes related to development and performance in infants at high risk of cerebral palsy.
Discussion: This protocol will inform and enrich clinical practice related to early intervention in low- and middle-income countries.
