A rotaxane with a ferrocene moiety at the axle terminus was prepared. The redox potential of the ferrocene moiety decreased by ca. 80 mV when the rotaxane had a crown ether wheel capable of moving on the axle. Thus, the stabilization of the oxidized state of the ferrocene moiety is assumed to accompany the transposition of the wheel component on the axle toward the ferrocene moiety. [reaction--see text]

The favorable redox properties of ferrocene have led to the extensive development of ferrocene-based systems for several electrochemical applications but have scarcely been explored for electrochromism. Here, we report the synthesis and electrochromic properties of novel π-conjugated ferrocene-dicyanovinylene systems (- and -). Monosubstituted (-) and disubstituted (-) compounds have been developed via Knoevenagel condensation of methyl-dicyanovinyl ferrocenes ( or ) with various aromatic aldehydes.

Bimetallic catalysts have gained attention as promising contenders, owing to the synergistic interaction between two distinct metal centers. In this study, we present two N-heterocyclic carbene iridium(III) pentamethylcyclopentadienyl complexes [Cp*Ir(fcpyNHC)Cl]PF (1) and [Cp*Ir(pyNHC)Cl]PF (2) where 1 includes a ferrocene moiety making it a bimetallic complex. Using ceric ammonium nitrate as a sacrificial oxidant, both complexes were tested for water oxidation.

Aromatic organometallic complexes, such as ferrocene and the "inverse sandwich complex" [NaCp], are stabilized via charge-transfer (C-T) interactions and cation-π interactions (i.e., charge-induced dipole and charge-quadrupole interactions).

The poor prognosis of glioblastoma multiforme, inadequate treatment options, and growing drug resistance urge the need to find new effective agents. Due to the significant anti-cancer potential of harmicens, hybrid compounds which comprise harmine/β-carboline and ferrocene moiety, we investigated their antiglioblastoma potential and mechanism of action (inhibition of DYRK1A, Hsp90, anti-oxidative activity). The results have shown that triazole-type harmicens, namely , with a ferrocene moiety in C-3 position of the β-carboline ring ( = 3.

We have reported that upon visible light irradiation, ferrocene-porphyrin-[60]fullerene triad molecules yield long-lived charge-separated states, enabling the control of the plasma membrane potential ( ) in living cells. These previous studies indicated that the localization of the triad molecules in a specific intra-membrane orientation and the suppression of the photodynamic actions of the [60]fullerene (C) moiety are likely important to achieve fast and safe control of , respectively. In this study, by mimicking our previous system of triad molecules and living cells, we report a simplified model system with a cationic C derivative (catC) and a liposome with embedded 1-pyrenebutyric acid (PyBA) to demonstrate that the addition of PyBA was important to achieve fast and safer control of .
