A two-infrared laser desorption/ionization method is described. A first laser, which was either an Er:YAG laser or an optical parametric oscillator (OPO), served for ablation/vaporization of small volumes of analyte/matrix sample at fluences below the ion detection threshold for direct matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). A second IR-laser, whose beam intersected the expanding ablation plume at a variable distance and time delay, was used to generate biomolecular ions out of the matrix-assisted laser desorption (MALD) plume. Either one of the two above lasers or an Er:YSGG laser was used for post-ionization. Glycerol was used as IR-MALDI matrix, and mass spectra of peptides, proteins, as well as nucleic acids, some of which in excess of 10(5) u in molecular weight, were recorded with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. A mass spectrum of cytochrome c from a water ice matrix is also presented. The MALD plume expansion was investigated by varying the position of the post-ionization laser beam above the glycerol sample surface and its delay time relative to the desorption laser. Comparison between the OPO (pulse duration, tau(L) = 6 ns) and the Er:YAG laser (tau(L) approximately 120 ns) as primary excitation laser demonstrates a significant effect of the laser pulse duration on the MALD process.

Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDCs) can be combined with organic semiconductors to form hybrid van der Waals heterostructures. Specially, non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) stand out due to their excellent absorption and exciton diffusion properties. Here, we couple monolayer tungsten diselenide (ML-WSe) with two well performing NFAs, ITIC, and IT-4F (fluorinated ITIC) to achieve hybrid architectures.

Gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) is the most common malignant tumor of biliary tract, with poor prognosis due to its aggressive nature and limited therapeutic options. Early detection of GBC is a major challenge, with most GBCs being detected accidentally during cholecystectomy procedures for gallbladder stones. This letter comments on the recent article by Deqing in the , which summarized the various current methods used in early diagnosis of GBC, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) examination of the gallbladder for high-risk GBC patients, and the use of EUS-guided elastography, contrast-enhanced EUS, trans-papillary biopsy, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery, magnifying endoscopy, choledochoscopy, and confocal laser endomicroscopy when necessary for early diagnosis of GBC.

Keloids are characterized by excessive growth of fibrous tissue resulting from abnormal wound-healing processes. They may lead to functional impairments, aesthetic deformities, pruritus, and a decreased quality of life. Various therapies, including intralesional corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, laser therapy, surgical excision, and radiotherapy, have been used to manage keloids, but the recurrence rates remain high.

Installing photovoltaic systems (PVs) on building rooftops is a viable and sustainable alternative to meet the growing demand for electricity in cities. This work develops a methodology that uses LiDAR (laser imaging detection and ranging) technology and roof footprints to obtain a three-dimensional representation of the rooftops in the urban centre of Santa Isabel (Azuay, Ecuador). This allowed the determination of characteristics such as area, slope, orientation, and received solar radiation, making it possible to calculate the rooftop's theoretical, technical, and economic photovoltaic potential.
