Influence of Newborns' Sex on Minor and Trace Element Concentrations in Human Milk During Early Lactation.

Breastfeed Med

December 2024

Pediatrics Infectious Diseases Research Center, Institute of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of newborns' sex on the concentrations of minor and trace elements in the human milk of lactating mothers during early lactation. The elemental analysis focused on calcium (Ca), potassium (K), sodium (Na), and chlorine (Cl) as minor elements and iodine (I), aluminum (Al), bromine (Br), and rubidium (Rb) as trace elements. Breast milk samples were collected from 75 lactating mothers in Tehran, Iran, during the early feeding stage.

This study aimed to evaluate the concentrations of both essential and non-essential elements in the breast milk of lactating mothers from Tehran, Iran, during the colostrum period. Neutron activation analysis (NAA) was used to measure the element concentrations. Additionally, the study assessed how these element concentrations were influenced by maternal factors such as age and economic status.

Article Synopsis
  • Conducted thermal treatment of dairy sludge at temperatures from 200 °C to 1000 °C to analyze its chemical composition and degradation, focusing on primary components like lactose and casein.
  • Employed various analytical techniques, including X-ray diffraction and FTIR, to identify compounds formed during treatment, revealing significant changes in the organic and inorganic structures of the sludge.
  • The study suggests that thermal plasma treatment can effectively transform dairy sludge into a vitreous slag, highlighting its potential for environmental management and waste neutralization.

The current study focuses on the effect of extract on the probiotic properties of lactic acid bacteria isolated from camel milk in the region of El Oued (Algeria). Chromatographic analysis by HPLC was carried out to detect the most important compounds extracted from the plant. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined using the colorimetric procedures Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride.

The potential impact on human health and the environment has spurred significant interest in detecting and quantifying pharmaceutical compounds across various matrices, from environmental to biological samples. Here, we present an electrochemical approach for determining levofloxacin in drug, synthetic urine, water, and breast milk samples. An affordable sensor was constructed using 3D printing and composite material based on nail polish, graphite, and aluminum oxide.
