Heterotopic pregnancy, the simultaneous occurrence of intrauterine and extrauterine gestations, is a rare phenomenon, especially without a history of assisted reproduction. This case report describes a 33-year-old woman presenting with severe abdominal pain at 7 weeks of pregnancy. Transvaginal ultrasound revealed an intrauterine singleton pregnancy and an adnexal mass, highly suspicious of an ectopic pregnancy, along with significant intraperitoneal fluid.

Pooled optical screens have enabled the study of cellular interactions, morphology, or dynamics at massive scale, but they have not yet leveraged the power of highly plexed single-cell resolved transcriptomic readouts to inform molecular pathways. Here, we present a combination of imaging spatial transcriptomics with parallel optical detection of in situ amplified guide RNAs (Perturb-FISH). Perturb-FISH recovers intracellular effects that are consistent with single-cell RNA-sequencing-based readouts of perturbation effects (Perturb-seq) in a screen of lipopolysaccharide response in cultured monocytes, and it uncovers intercellular and density-dependent regulation of the innate immune response.

We review the methods we developed to study female genital cutting in Sudan and sex-selective abortion in Armenia. These methods were untested at the time of our original research, and here we compare the distinct but overlapping approaches we used to validate our methods for each of the two countries. Additionally, we repeat a number of analyses, including those related to validation, with previously unpublished data from Sudan.

New coordination complexes of 3d metals that possess photoactive metal-centered (MC) excited states are promising targets for optical applications and photocatalysis. Ultrafast spectroscopy plays an important role in elucidating the photophysical mechanisms that underlie photochemical activity. However, it can be difficult to assign transient signals to specific electronic excited states and mechanistic information is often inferred from kinetics.
