With the aim to lower the degree of endogenous intoxication in 9 children with diffuse peritonitis of appendicular genesis the membrane plasmapheresis with the plasma exchange was used in complex of postoperative treatment. Depending on severity of clinical course of the disease there were conducted two procedures on the 2-3 and 5-7 postoperative day to every patient. Application of the membrane plasmapheresis in complex of treatment had promoted the reduction of the endogenous intoxication degree due to influence on its main pathogenetic chains and the immune systemic reactivity raising.

Acute alcohol intoxication could cause multiorgan damage, including nervous, digestive, and cardiovascular systems, and in particular, irreversible damage to the brain and liver. Emerging studies have revealed that the endogenous multienzymatic antioxidant defense system (MEAODS) plays a central role in preventing oxidative stress and other toxicological compounds produced by alcohol. However, few available drugs could quickly regulate MEAODS.

Article Synopsis
  • - Recent research has gathered extensive biological evidence from various fields like biochemistry and neuroimaging to support the idea of a continuum of affective disorders.
  • - This continuum includes two dimensions: a clinical one that ranges from major depressive disorder to the bipolar spectrum, and a causal one focusing on the various underlying factors of these mood disorders.
  • - The upcoming Special Issue aims to investigate the complex markers that characterize these affective disorders from both clinical and causal viewpoints.

  • Carbon dioxide (CO) is produced by cellular respiration and can be deadly at high levels, especially in unventilated spaces.
  • The paper discusses six cases of CO poisoning due to grape must fermentation in a confined area, resulting in four fatalities and two survivors.
  • Investigations included environmental gas measurements, autopsies, and histopathological analyses, revealing toxic CO levels and signs of alcohol in the deceased, leading to recommendations for improved post-mortem CO intoxication diagnosis methods.
