We observed inpatients with the diagnosis of ischemic stroke hospitalized at least 24 hours. We investigated the reasons for early or late arrival to the Emergency Room, the time span from arrival to computed tomography (CT) scanning, factors associated to hospitalization time, and patients outcome. We concluded that people who are cared for by São Paulo Hospital now get to the hospital sooner than they did 3 years ago (47% arrived in 3 hours or less) and that the patient flow inside the hospital became much faster, once any stroke patient is considered now a medical emergency by the hospital staff. Infections were the main complications presented by our patients, which is leading us to optimize protocols to improve emergency care by all the staff.

Background: Aeromedical transfer of patients with ischemic stroke to access hyperacute stroke treatment is becoming increasingly common. Little is known about how rapid changes of altitude and atmospheric pressure can impact cerebral perfusion and ischemic burden. In patients with ischemic stroke, there is a theoretical possibility that this physiologic response of hypoxia-driven hyperventilation at higher altitude can lead to a relative drop in PaCO2.

Ischemic stroke is a major cause of adult disability. Early treatment with thrombolytics and/or thrombectomy can significantly improve outcomes; however, following these acute interventions, treatment is limited to rehabilitation therapies. Thus, the identification of therapeutic strategies that can help restore brain function in the post-acute phase remains a major challenge.

Cerebral ischemia-induced pyroptosis contributes to the dissemination of neuroinflammation, and Nod-like receptor protein-3 (NLRP3) inflammasome plays a key role in this process. Previous studies have indicated that Genistein-3'-sodiumsulfonate (GSS) can inhibit neuroinflammation caused by cerebral ischemia, exert cerebroprotective effects, but its specific mechanism has not been comprehensively understood. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of GSS on ischemic stroke-induced cell pyroptosis.

Introduction: Spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia with joint laxity type 1 (SEMD-JL1) is an extremely rare skeletal dysplasia belonging to a group of disorders called linkeropathies. It is characterized by skeletal and connective tissue abnormalities. Biallelic variants in genes encoding enzymes that synthesize the tetrasaccharide linker region of glycosaminoglycans lead to linkeropathies, which exhibit clinical and phenotypic features that overlap with each other.

Background: We performed a prespecified subgroup analysis of the CATIS-2 trial (China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke II) to compare the effect of early versus delayed antihypertensive treatment on death and disability in patients with and without medical history of hypertension.
Methods: CATIS-2 is a multicenter randomized clinical trial conducted in 106 hospitals in China. The trial randomized 4810 patients with acute ischemic stroke within 24 to 48 hours of symptom onset and elevated systolic blood pressure between 140 and <220 mm Hg to receive antihypertensive treatment immediately after randomization or to discontinue antihypertensive medications for 7 days and then receive treatment on day 8.
