The vanilloid receptor (VR1) is a central integrator molecule of nociceptive stimuli. In this study, we have measured the effects of various neurotrophins (nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, neurotrophin-3, and -4) on recombinant rat VR1-mediated intracellular calcium rise in response to capsaicin in VR1/C6 cells. Our results clearly show that all neurotrophins sensitize the VR1 to capsaicin. Furthermore, using K252a, an inhibitor of tyrosine kinases, we present that actions of neurotrophins are mediated by the trk (A, B, C) receptors expressed in these cells. These data argue for the putative roles of neurotrophins in inducing inflammatory (thermal) hyperalgesia via VR1.

This paper is devoted to the investigation of the plasmonic effect of metal nanoparticles (NPs) formed on the surface of the YAG: Bi, Ce, Yb phosphors in a temperature range between 4 and 300 K. Combination of a thin conversion layer with silver plasmonic nanostructures leads to increase of sensitizer absorption and emission efficiency. Enhancement of Bi luminescence in YAG epitaxial films with Ag NPs was observed upon cooling the samples below 200 K.

Cancer genome sequencing studies have identified somatic mutations in the KEAP1/NRF2 pathway. In an effort to identify novel NRF2 small molecule inhibitor(s), we have screened a natural compound library comprising 1,330 chemicals in A549-ARE-GFP-luciferase cells and identified that narciclasine significantly inhibits NRF2-dependent luciferase activity. Narciclasine suppressed the expression of NRF2 and NRF2 target genes, caused significant oxidative stress, and sensitized cisplatin-mediated apoptosis in A549 cells.

venom allergy (HVA) is an IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reaction caused by species stings (honeybee, vespid, or ant). The only effective treatment is venom immunotherapy (VIT). Our study aimed to evaluate whether humoral and cellular biomarkers measured before, during, and after honeybee VIT are associated with the success of VIT, which was assessed by the response to a sting challenge one year after finishing VIT.

Significant upregulation of HELLS has been reported in 33 human cancer types. While HELLS has been implicated in DNA damage response, its function in DNA repair is poorly understood.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease where pain, driven by both inflammatory and non-inflammatory processes, is a major concern for patients. This pain can persist even after joint inflammation subsides. High mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) is a non-histone-DNA binding protein located in the nucleus that plays a key role in processes such as DNA transcription, recombination, and replication.
