Background: Hepatocarcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumours world-wide with poor prognosis. Treatment of locally advanced hepatocarcinoma is still controversial. Transcatheter arterial (chemo-)embolisation of hepatocarcinoma are widely used methods but some aspects regarding their use and usefulness have not yet been clarified. Systemic remedies have not yet been proven to affect patient survival.
Aims: To determine if intra-arterial chemotherapy with 5-flurouracil and folinic acid in locally advanced hepatocarcinoma is a viable alternative to existing therapies.
Patients: Twenty-four inoperable consecutive patients with locally advanced hepatocarcinoma were enrolled. They all underwent intra-arterial chemotherapy via a surgically implanted port-a-cath, and folinic acid (100 mg/m2) and 5-flurouracil (up to 550 mg/m2) were administered with a 1-week or a 2-week schedule.
Results: Nineteen patients completed the study: 2 showed a complete positive response, 11 a partial response, 6 stable disease, while 4 showed a disease progression. Median survival time was 19 (range 4-85) months. Child A patients showed a significant longer survival.
Conclusions: Intra-arterial chemotherapy using folinic acid and 5-flurouracil may be useful in the treatment of locally advanced hepatocarcinoma in cirrhotic patients even in the presence of thrombosis. This treatment could be also useful in comparing transarterial chemoembolisation to a curative treatment.

Background: To evaluate the real-world surgical and pathological outcomes following neoadjuvant nivolumab in combination with chemotherapy in a multicentre national cohort of patients.
Methods: Retrospective analysis on consecutive patients treated in three tertiary referral hospitals in UK with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and immunotherapy (nivolumab) for stage II-IIIB nonsmall cell lung cancer (March 2023-May 2024). Surgical and pathological outcomes were assessed.

As artificial intelligence advances and demand for cost-effective equipment maintenance in various fields increases, it is worth insightful research on utilizing robots embedded with sound source localization (SSL) technology for condition monitoring. Combining the two techniques has significant advantages, which are conducive to further classifying and tracking abnormal sources, thereby enhancing system performance at a lower cost. The paper provides an overview of current acoustic-based robotic techniques for condition monitoring, highlights the common SSL methods, and finds that localization performance heavily depends on signal quality.

Purpose: To compare the effectiveness and safety of CT-guided iodine-125 seed brachytherapy in conjunction with chemotherapy against chemotherapy alone for the management of intermediate and advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) lacking oncogenic driving genes.
Methods And Materials: Retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data from 128 patients diagnosed with intermediate and advanced non-small cell lung cancer who received iodine-125 combined with chemotherapy or chemotherapy alone due to the absence of oncogenic driver gene mutations. The patients in two groups were compared at 6-month follow-up for objective remission rate (ORR), Disease control rate (DCR), local progression-free survival (LPFS), overall survival (OS), clinical symptom improvement, and adverse events.

The BioFire FilmArray® Gastrointestinal (GI) Panel, a widely used diagnostic tool, is designed to detect the genetic material of 22 common pathogens responsible for gastroenteritis, including viruses, bacteria, and parasites. It can detect human adenovirus (HAdV) species F, particularly serotypes F40 and F41, which are the major causes of diarrhea and mortality in children. However, its potential shortcomings in detecting other HAdV species limit its effectiveness in broader HAdV detection in clinical settings and outbreak investigations.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) is the standard for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). However, distant metastasis remains the primary cause of treatment failure. Early identification of high-risk individuals for personalized treatment may offer a solution.
