To explore the effect of lithium carbonate combined with olanzapine on glucose and lipid metabolism, as well as gender differences in treating bipolar disorder (BD). 110 BD patients admitted to the Fifth People's Hospital of Luoyang from February 2022 to January 2024 were retrospectively included in the study. Patients were categorized into two groups based on treatment: The single group (lithium carbonate, n = 50) and the coalition group (lithium carbonate + olanzapine, n=60).

Background: Many variables may affect approaches of psychiatrists to methamphetamine-associated psychotic disorder (MAP) treatment. This study was aimed to reach adult psychiatrists actively practicing in Turkey through an internet-based survey and to determine their practices and attitudes to MAP treatment.
Methods: In this internet-based study, participants were divided into three groups based on their answers: Those who do not follow-up any MAP patient were group 1 (n = 78), partially involved in the treatment process of at least one patient diagnosed with MAP were group 2 (n = 128), completely involved in the treatment process of at least one patient diagnosed with MAP were group 3 (n = 202).

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is implicated in the etiology of schizophrenia, and peripheral BDNF levels are affected by the short-term antipsychotic treatment. However, the data on their long-term effects on BDNF levels are scarce, and there is no information whether BDNF levels change during sustained remission in relation to values in healthy individuals. The aim of the present study was to compare serum BDNF levels in patients in long-term remission and healthy controls.

Olanzapine, a second-generation antipsychotic widely used for schizophrenia, is primarily known for its efficacy in managing both positive and negative symptoms. While its metabolic side effects are well-documented, hematologic complications such as thrombocytopenia are rare and often underrecognized. A 30-year-old Middle Eastern male with a longstanding history of schizophrenia developed persistent thrombocytopenia after several years of olanzapine use, with platelet counts consistently below the normal range.
